Sorry to hear about your mother. Here is my view :
The exact diagonis of your mother's complication can only be diagonised by a doctor. I am sure that even in India, different doctors vary in their diagonis. I doubt that it is an uncommon disease that your mum is going through, chances are that Candian doctors may not be able to identify the nature of the disease itself.
To me, it seems that it can be a mental disorder or eating disorder or can be a combination of both. If it is a mental disorder, Centre of addiction and mental Health would be the best place to treat it. Along with medicines prescribed by them you would need to put her with people who speak the same language as her and come from the same culture. For example Scarborough couselling centres will be full of Sri Lankan tamil people and Gujarathi's. if your mom is a Delhi , Hindiite, she will feel even worse to be in that group. if it is in Brampton or near the Humber college, then there will be a lot of Panjabi women. This is the best you can do in the GTA.
Other option is to send your mom and dad to India (taking the mediciation from CAMH) to stay in India near relatives and you can visit her once a year and that would surely make her feel better.
Even in Delhi, You should talk with the local population to find a good doctor who deals with mental health and Eating disorders and he would be able to help you better. I really donot belive that the Candian health system can effectively treat your mom as we donot have any say in choosing the doctor that we want.

My father's been a victim of this depression for a year (whole year) and then it turned around. He started a new business by investing a lot, the first year of the whole activity was unexpected (teething problems) and he took them to heart and mind. We saw him without sleep, getting up in middle of night with whole bed wet...the sweat was so high as if someone has dropped buckets, no appetite.

When we took him to our family doctor he said physiatrist and medicines will kill him. He needs family support and love and together we can turn around. I'm not delving in details of how bad it went but it was really bad, we almost lost him for a world unknown. He turned around because of many reasons,

Family support (among our studies and work me and my brother started running his business for which we had no idea, he is in engg products)
Patience and love of my mom
Regular prayers, a lot of spiritual atmosphere was in our home
His friends (this is the biggest thing, to talk and unburden among peers without being judged)
And most important his inventory (dead stock what made him sick) started to sell (he was out of office and at home for 6 mths and lost 27 kgs).

Its 14 yrs since this happened, both I and my bro are married with kids, my father and bro are doing extremely well in their business but that 1 year of our life is always there. I think it made us more stronger and powerful people and changed our destinies for ever.

Support your mom as much as you can, I wish I could have helped you in any other way, we don't live in Canada so not aware of any women centers. I hope someone else on board comes up with a suggestion. She'll be in my prayers.

I didn't want to get into this but on the flip side my father has lost his leg to diabetes as well and he has been in Rehab for the past few months. But he is doing real well after the operation, because he has always had a positive outlook on life. But this has become worrysome for my mother, "how will i take care of him", "nobody is curing my problem" etc.. add this to the list of her trivial things she already worries about, such as no friends, not much finances, our marriages, etc..

So we have asked them to go to india after he is comfortable with his prosthetic. Since there is no family here, I find that my mother opens up to some of my girl-cousins she grew up with or helped raise. So I think this might be beneficial for both of them to "get away" from it all and be in an environment of their kinfolk.

And Jonav, thank you for sharing your experiences as well. And the checklist you shared, has been put into practice for a long time. Except for say the friendship part, when my mother worked in factories 10 years ago, she had friends but shen she got into an accident at work, she had to stay at home and cut of all contacts. We were young then and I wish we could have done something in the early stages of this problem, this I regret to this day.

And I have also located another center in Brampton. We will try this as well.
