6-630am!! Wow, now that's what call motivation!! I barely awake at that ungodly hour! Good for you though, I remember the days when I would decline going out with friends because I had a date with the treadmill.

Well you certainly have opened my eyes a little wider today....you, who are also married, but with two littles ones, still manage to eat healthy AND go to the gym...what excuse do I have?

I'm slowly making the transition from white rice to brown too...but brown rice takes sooo long to cook, and the grain texture just isn't the same, everything else though, is brown/whole wheat. Do you still use white sugar?

I lurve my wine too, esp. red. I have decided to cut down on alcohol too...the sugar content can really add up. Never had a taste for brandy....I'm more of a vodka kinda gal.

You need to increase your metabolism...so you burn that fat. The only way is diet+exercise...your diet seems to be fine. Just up the cardio...walking etc.

Getting rid of body fat is tough...even for me with 33 inches only on waist( inspite of my 175 pounds). Aiming for that washboard abs look :D . Have to get my body fat down to 9% atleast for that. :(



I have the same problem as Lana, although I'm a little heavier at 120lbs. I heard you can take a supplement that increases metabolism - have you (Jake, or anyone else) had any experience with them? What were the results?

someone joked with my wife that the only explanation is that I have another woman at the gym. :)

6 months ago, my wife stepped into the gym after a gap of about 10+ yrs. Now she is completely hooked...we push each other on. She even cooks(which I shamefully dont), and most of our meals are at home.

Yes but very small amounts. A teaspoon a day prolly.

Any alcohol is fine with me. The wifes a bit more picky.
Alcohol slows down metabolism...but then again one is allowed a few vices :). I'll just exercise a bit more :p

You think I wouldnt have? They mess with your head...mood swings, headaches etc. Atleast the ones that work. Different sideffects for different people...I would not recommend it since I've tried it.

I prefer van-houtte coffee now. Especially before workout is a good idea.

Also fat gets more stubborn as your dieting progresses. Exercise + good diet takes time to rid that fat...think in years....but the results stay.

During weekday I walk atleast 45 mins - that during my commute to and from office. I use GO transit. So you can assume that those 45 mins walking is good for heart ;) Sometime when my lil daughter needs a break from my apartment, I just wrap her up in her stroller and go jogging for ~45-50 mins. (I can do this for atleast next 5 months!)

Most of the times my wife packs my lunch with cooked beans or moong daal ( gujarati mug ni daal) or any kidney beans mixed with tomatos and beet. It's with little olive oil. Along with this I have one fruit. I try to keep up with one V8.
So that's with I have for my lunch.
I split my lunch into two mini-lunchs ;) - one at very late morning and next at later afternoon. On my way back to home I munch all bran bar - no oil, no much sugar no fat;)
Dinner is somewhat typical gujarati style. Rotli (chapatis) and subji .. sometime daal - which both of us enjoy a lot .. and rice made like veg. biryani style.

Tough to follow food guide, esp if you have a strict veggie diet. Any suggestions for improvements ?

Ok, I'll try not to hurt gym-lover's feelings ... I'm no fan of gym. You workout, you jog, run ... but it takes you no where :D You are still within the same four walls !

May be you can use 0% or 1% milk. Since you are a gujarathi, you tend to consume much High fat milk. This low fat milk will not show any improvement in weight but is good for the heart. Try also to drink lots and lots of water whenever you can. Can flush the toxins out of the body. I heard in a christian show by a doctor that lot of water inatek can cure almost all sorts of diseases or atleast try to heal the disease.

I thought as much. Oh well....

Speaking of coffee, I used to drink about 3 cups a day...but for the last 3 years I'm strictly on 1 cup-a-day in the mornings to give me that wake-up kick I need. (I am so not a morning person :( )

What in your opinion would be the most effective cardio exercise one could do?
