hi guys , if u are looking for some realistic rankings of all universities in the world ( including canadian) u can get it at
http://www.eecs.uic.edu/abouteecs/rankings.htm
Actually these are meant for ( Masters) Electrical & computer engineering, but u can compare univ for that fields too..i think while u r applying for masters , first thing to look out is rankings,
best of luck...
The above rankings are for the CS (computer science) department which is very much different from the ECE (Electrical & Comptuer Engineering) departments. Though internally within the uni these two depts may co-operate a lot, what I've generally noticed is the rankings for the CS and ECE depts of most unis are very different ( a uni can be ranked low for CS but their ECE dept may be in the top 5-10)
But my advice for graduate level work would be to look at the research the profs are doing and their publications and their contacts with the industry (will help with finding a job).
For the particular case of UIC, their ECE adn CS depts are administered as one dept (hence the name EECS), but this is not the case with most unis --which will have an ECE & CS dept.
cheers
Rankings go by program - not by entire university. If you are talking about prestige - it usually starts with McGill University, a.k.a Canada's Harvard, followed by Queens University, University of Toronto, and University of British Columbia, respectivly - but again, that is simply prestige and reputation. On a realistic level you need to compare schools by programs, i.e. Concordia University's John Molson School of Business has a higher ranked, more respected MBA program then schools like UBC or Dalhousie, for example...
anti desi- talking about john molson, can you pls give info on whether HEC montreal or Victoria univ etc are worth doing MBA's from? does one get a job after passing out from second rung business schools? or by doing masters programs in marketing etc from seneca/humber etc. is mba from second rung school better or masters frm seneca/humber etc. how easy or tough is it to get into john molson/HEC/Victoria etc?
