I think the proposal is to ban handheld GPS devices (like blackberries). Mounted GPS, which can be used when you pull over on the side are exempt from this proposal.
Just my opinion.

From what I heard on 680 news today, it is the dashboard mounted GPS that are exempt (cars with inbuilt GPS). All other GPS are considered handheld - but we will have to wait for more clairifications.

I welcome the decision to make ban on cell phones and not on GPS. GPS is a helpful instrument. I think the ban should be extended to Ipod because I have seen people usin IPod have more distractions than cell phones. And yes It would be too difficult to practise this as people are used to use cellphones while driving. Police should be more vigilant to supervise the drivers using cellphones.
Even handsfree should be banned. I've seen many drivers cruising at 80mph on a 401 left most line, why ? yapping with some using the headset.
One could always pull over and talk and then go.. See once you start talking to some one be it is in a cellphone or even the passenger for that matter, it distracts the driver and spirals many unwanted events.
Unless some one gets into the recieving end, it wouldn't be any easy thing to realize.

It is time we had this law.
On a side note, NFL premier Danny Williams was caught by a pedestrian talking on his cellphone while driving. He then was able to get scott-free after giving some explanation.
Let us see if somebody catches Dalton McGuinty or Jim Bradley flouting this law

Why would he even bother to give any explanation, no law currently exists which bans the use of cellphone devices while driving.
