Watch out there is a big blitz by police to issue tickets even if you have a device or food in your hand even if you are not using it.
If you have a soda can, have a device like a phone, mp3 player in your hand. You could get a ticket even if you are adjusting your GPS While driving.
You could get a 155 dollar ticket for just holding a cellphone in your hand in a stop sign.
Recently they have issued nearly 10,000 tickets on similar charges.
Please read the relevant laws an there is no leeway to fight.
All recent experiences welcome in this thread.

What about those who drive manual cars as gear shifting needs one hand going off the steering wheel.

Only the strong arrived.

Toronto police are warning the public about the dangers of distracted driving after concluding their annual enforcement campaign, which saw them lay nearly 10,000 charges related to the offence.
The week-long blitz ended Sunday, with total charges being up compared to 2011.
Roughly 1,700 people were charged with using a communication device, with nearly another 130 charges for having a display visible to the driver.
Police said any sort of screen such as computer, mobile, or GPS can be distracting to a driver.
Eating and adjusting your vehicle’s entertainment system also is said to pose a risk.
A total of 77 people were charged for operating an entertainment device while driving.
Police said they laid 9,876 charges this year, compared to the 8,758 charges laid in the 2011 campaign.

My friend got a 155 dollar ticket for hand held device.
His car was stopped on a red light waiting for a left turn green.
He had kept his mobile within the cover and had plugged it in for charging.
The phone fell down, he picked it up and was putting it back into the cup holder.
A cop car which was in the parallel lane saw him with the device in his hand and he was ticketed 155 bucks.
I checked the law and it clearly says it is for a hand held device irrespective being used or not.
May be if somebody carries a handheld vibrator while driving will get a ticket for carrying a hand held entertainment device.
McGuinty needs to balance the budget and may be this the way out to pay for the free education and OHIP.
