Ridiculous argument, ashedfc bhai.
The cops are enforcing these rules in the interest of public safety. Inspite of 'handheld device' bans, i commonly see people flouting the rules which is why we need something really, really harsh!
Allow me to recall one unforgettable incident from my past. Growing up in India, my family used to own a lorry transportation company.
During summer holidays, i used to accompany my uncles in these lorries as they travelled all over India.
The drivers had a curious habit of downing full bottles of beer/whisky while driving..both day and night. when i complained to my Uncle about this. He said. 'Oh, that!. All the lorry drivers do this. It keeps them sharp and awake through the night' WTF!!
Needless to say, the company closed down due to several accidents over the years. Many loads were driven off the road, cattle and people were maimed and killed. This lack of awareness still prevails in India among lorry drivers.
Imagine, TK and his family driving on a fun trip in one of these national highways. I wonder if TK will still press the 'Super like' button.
regards,
Rajagopal.

Rajagopal,
I think you did not understand fully what V'mataram and Ash were trying to say.
The cop will rush to give a ticket if it was done by a brown skinned or dark skinned person but they will hesitate to do it if it was a local native. That is the problem in Canada.
During my stay there, I found that most (not all) were unsympathetic towards me ( Employer, Cops, TTC Ticket giver etc...). They all think that dark skinned people mean that we are refugee's and that Canada gave us protection from a war torn region. That is one of the main reason for me to quit the place.
Peace

Sorry TK but no one is saying that only brown skinned persons are getting tickets. V is concerned that he might get a ticket for using a hand held vibrator while driving and Ash - keeping in line with his conspiracy theories think that it is a budget balancing excercise. Though if you do simple math that 10,000 tickets @ 155 will net around 1.5 million ...... this is not going to make a dent in the provinces 100 billion dollar budget.
Coming back to the main topic, as Raj pointed out this is good that police is enforcing this law as i for one would not like to be killed by a distracted driver. This is not something unique to Toronto, even Vancouver is going hard after distracted drivers and last year issued 32,000 tickets @ 165 a piece !!!!!

I do not agree.
We can't really generalize individual experiences. Of course when different people are coming from all over the world and making Canada as their home, some problems are bound to be there mostly depending upon individual who is i the administration ( employers, cops, ttc etc). Still Canada is BEST in this regard. Even in India, many experience discrimination due to regional, caste and religious differences.

It is only a matter of time before someone pulls out a graph on how this is related to oil and the conflict in the middle east.
And as usual, you also have to take V's post with a lump of salt. There could be an organized blitz to catch distracted drivers
OR
One of his friend's friend in Milton could have had a friend who got a ticket because he was talking on the cell phone while fixing his GPS. V heard about this in a grocery store and before you know it, we get this post.
