I just bought a 32 inches LCD TV from wallmart - Sony Bravia for $399 - I want to put it on the wall. Any idea how much it would cost me, the wall mounted bracket with installation. I had called someone from Craigslist and he is charging a lot. Pls refer me to someone reliable. Thanks in advance and Best wishes and Happy new year 2010

Do not attempt anything until you check out your wall. You need to find the type of the wall you are going to install.

From my experience in a Condo I bought the bracket from Futureshop and bought the hooks from Home Depot and I started drilling and found that none of my walls were thick enough to take the screw.

You could get a Desi electrician/handyman to drill the 3 screws and install the TV for about 50 bucks.

As I did not have the right type of the wall I'm stuck with holes on two walls and my TV is on the stand. I need to fill the holes now and refinish the wall.

There are various types of hooks/screws available in Home Depot depending on the type of the wall and the weight of the LCD TV.

You could also install the typical screw which comes with the wall mount. A good wall mount (you need to chose the model from your TV make and model info) would cost about 100 bucks. The installation is another 50 bucks. Hence it is all together about 150 bucks while your TV costs about 400 bucks.

I strongly suggest buying a 1080p projecter which you move and store it aside and also project upto 70 inches on the wall.

My 2 cents on this issue, which I've learnt the hard way.

Generally, walls are drywall which is around 0.5 inch thick and not strong enough to support heavy stuff such as TV. You will need to find the stud (the wood frame) and then drill through the drywall and then to the stud. The studs are normally framed with 16" pitch. You can buy a stud finder that will detect the location of the stud behind the walls.

What you need is a stud detector first & you need to make sure that there are enough columns ( studs) parallel & vertical based on wallmount measurements where you can drill a hole. Usually you cannot drill a hole on a regular dry wall which will support a TV wall mount. I installed this myself & it was pretty easy to do ( for me atleast ) but again it depends on how comfortable you are.
