Yes, Such exam preps will be available online within a month. I already have some quality related workshops ready with me. Next step is to have ITIL, PMP, six sigma etc...

And then some customers too :D ... With an inclination towards self-study, one can save much more than 50% in such online preps.

If you work in a service centric organization using the ITIL framework and/ or other Governance frameworks/ standards/models like COBIT, CMMi, ISO 20000, TQM or Six Sigma, grasping the concepts of ITIL and passing the V2 Foundation exam should not be much of a challenge.

ITIL V3 is totally different ball game. Not only has the number of processes increased from 10 to 24 (in addition to the new functions) but so has the whole fundamental thinking and approach to Service Management. V2 is highly process centric while V3 is life-cycle oriented. For those folks with no prior background in V2, grasping V3 may be a bit easier.

I would like to add that while having an extensive IT background doesn't mean that you could easily align the thinking from infratructure, operations, development, maintenance etc to the service delivery and support concepts and the whole service eco-system. I have come across hard-core IT specialists (some of the best in the industry) who just don't seem to be able to buy in to the Service Management approach.

While I agree with ThinkingOne for the most part, I would say while passing the exam is one thing, the body of knowledge that you have acquired needs to be applied in one capacity or another in an IT 'Services' environment, be it in Delivery or Support if you want to eventually work towards being a Practitioner in one or multiple processes. So irrespective of whether you pass the exam through self-study or through an intensive 2 day crash course, what matters are the days ahead and how you can start to apply the concepts.

My humble opinion is that the crash course has its merits and its demerits as well. I have seen folks who took the 2 day crash course and supplemented this with some additional days of self study to digest the concepts and passed the exam - not sure if a lot of training providers allow the exam to be postponed to a later date - those that do allow, have you sit the exam along with the next batch (this may you don't have to bear the cost of having a Proctor - onless of course its Prometric).

Courses are available through Accredited Training providers starting from $ 1000 all the way to $ 2500. Pink Elephant, HP, IBM etc are some of the high end ones out there.

Doing ITIL Foundations may be a start but if you are seriously looking to embark on an IT Service Management journey, it may be worthwhile having a long term plan to work towards being a Practioner or a V2 Service Manager (Masters)/ V3 ITIL Expert. With the new credit based system (you need a total of 22 credits to get to the V3 Expert), this may quite a long journey (I presume the V3 foundations give you 2 credits) and may set you back by at least C$ 30,000 unless of course your employers sponsors you all the way.

Sorry about the long thread. Would love to keep the discussion going and be more than happy to chip in with any advice that folks may require in their preparation. I have no commercial interest of any sort in this (just hedging my bets in case anyone has any smart alec remarks typed up )
