____________________________________________________________
the advantage with me was that i had not resigned from my present job in USA

had taken a 4 week extended leave from my present job in New York and set myself that time to get a break in toronto.

after returneing i got 2 calls and they paid me to come down for an interview in Toronto

During the 30 days I did not project myself as a new immigrant looking for a job ...i told them i am here on a long vacation ( which was actually the case)............

It is a fact that HR guys will respect you more if you tell them that you are already employed somewhere else and they might show interest in you because you work for a another similar company

Even tho I am making more money in US than what i am being offerred i am really excited about the new move.

i could have stayed in the US for 5-6 years and gotten a greencard but there were uncertainities involved and i did not want to give up a chance to become a canadian citizen in 3 yrs especially now that i am getting a job there...
____________________________________________________________

Two scenarios:

1) Our first character is Mr. 'A' who was working in USA before coming to Canada , had not quit the job till he got one in Canada, drawing more than CAD$85,000 per annum, working in a company which is well recognized in NORTH AMERICA, employers do know that company, planning to settle down in Canada, FULL OF POSITIVE ATTITUDE, came to VISIT Canada for 30 days, family still living in USA, MET employers, followed up from USA, got interview calls from 2 companies in Toronto who paid him the fare as well, got job in one of those companies, compromised on the salary structure (PLUS COMPANY CAR) though he was getting more in USA than he will be now getting in Canada but he got attracted by the fact that he can get Canadian Citizenship in 3 years (probably he has some other plans in mind once he gets Canadian passport), finally landed in Canada and HE AND HIS FAMILY LIVED THE LIFE HAPPILY , THEREAFTER…………AFTER ALL MR. ‘A’ SAW HIS DREAMS COMING TRUE…….

2) Our second character: Mr. 'X', who migrated to Canada from India, left his job permanently, came to Canada with family (TO HAVE MORAL SUPPORT), has limited settlement funds (apprx. $13,000) to spend, no income source (remember: he quit his job in India), has to take rental accomodation, spend money on transportation, driving classes and on so many things.......BUT HE IS FULL OF POSITIVE ATTITUDE BECAUSE HE READ SO MANY BOOKS ON 'ATTITUDE' and LOT OF POSTS ON CANADIANDESI.COM BEFORE GETTING HIS VISA.........time flies.......4 months gone......wife is not working because she has to take care of kids...........Mr. 'X' could not find a SUITABLE JOB as per his qualifications and experience(in India, he was a software professional).......settlement funds are EVAPORATING like anything.......only $6000-7000 left.....then one day, he gets a job of Sales Person at Future Shop.........though that job is not as per his qualifications/exp./profession but he sees a lot of opportunity to make some money and compensate what he has already spent from his settlement funds.........side by side he keeps on trying software jobs but now the problem is that whenever he tells the employers that he works as a sales person in Future Shop, they straight-away refuse because he does not have any experience in Canada as a software professional...........so he is left with no option but to continue with Future Shop job and look for better opportunity within the company............................................three years gone and now Mr. 'X' is working at Best Buy as Assistant Sales manager, has bought a house worth $250,000 with 5% down payment, bought a car, 1995 Toyota Corolla for $5000 (cheap and best deal!), got his driving license after 2-3 attempts, spent about $800 alone on driver license.............wife is working as Cashier at Tim Hortons on part time basis (full days on weekends and on week days, morning four hours), getting $7.75 an hour, their small kids (one two years and the other 5 years) go to day care, have one tenant living in the basement, paying off their bills on time………………………AND NOW, MR. ‘X’ AND HIS FAMILY HAVE TO LIVE THEIR LIFE HAPPILY........NO CHOICE...... (THOUGH MR. ‘X’ HAS NOW ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT BECOMING A SOFTWARE PROFESSIONAL IN CANADA WAS HIS DREAM AND DREAMS NEVER COME TRUE……….!)

ANY THOUGHTS???

Both are happy with their lives right? So who are we to say any different?
It is a snapshot of life in general. There always are and will be people who acheive their dreams and those who do not. Else every one who wanted to be a film star would be one. BL would even get to work with Aishwarya rai :D
Nice post

Don't you mean Aishwarya Rai would get to work with me :D.?

Although I think that's a pretty good post from Sanjeev. I know a couple of people in the latter category here in Toronto. Anyways, will reply in detail later.

What can i say Jake you said it all .

No one knows the future...Mr A could be back in trouble and Mr X could accomplish more than his dreams ...so is life... full of surprises.

But one common attitude wich will keep both Mr X and Mr A ticking ... is to --never give up-- no matter what ...

This is what Mr A learnt when he left india with hardly any money not so long ago .... i am sure Mr X and many more got a better start in life than mr A.

Life is full of surprises friends ...take it as it comes and never give up... and you will never look back.

Hi ! Sajeevm,

Excellent case study , It's a bang on . Two of my known persons perfectly fits your study. But it can't be similar to all.

Well Said Jake 3rd:
