Hi,
At the end of a telephonic interview with a Canadian University for admission to their PhD program,
I was told, "You will shortly be receiving an offer from us."
When I asked ,"How long does this process usually take?",
I was told, "I am unable to tell you that at the moment, but you are at the top of our list."
This conversation happened a week ago. After that --nothing.
Can anyone tell me what does "shortly" mean? I feel a week is too long a delay between a verbal offer and a written one (Some Universities usually email within 2-3 days). Another week, and I will be left feeling that I must have imagined this whole interview!
How do I gently remind this University that I am waiting, without seeming too desperate or too impatient?
Thanks for any input!

Yes. Give it some time. Typically, the department/school will send you an offer. Once you accept the offer the department that accepts you sends the information to the Registrar. It is the Registrar that may send the formal letter.
It may be a good idea to find out an adminstrative person where you have applied, as opposed to the academic person who may have made the offer also. They would know more.
Congratulations and good luck.
Hi Ranirani and Iknownothing,
Thank you
I am assuming that this is for the fall semester, which starts in September, so you should sit tight and wait. However, if you do not hear anything from them in four weeks time, you should follow up.
