Hi all I am looking for some ideas for my father. He is 65 years old very active man. He has 35years of experience in Automobile industry (he was a wholesaler of tractor, Cars parts etc. etc)

They got the immigration last year and he was very certain that he would do some import/export business in Auto parts. Anyway... as we all know these things take time... so it did not work out, they stayed here for 6 months and went back... now he is coming back again next month, he cannot relax, he needs something to do... Does matter if it brings money or not... he needs to feel satisfied, either by earning or by helping someone in a productive way.

He would be coming to Surrey, BC and if anyone knows anything that he can do as a Volunteer with any organizatin or any part time job.... or anything from home please let me know.

I do not want him to opt for Security job or something like that at his age. All I want him to be busy doing something productive. Any ideas?

would really appreciate. thanks

Many of the security guards that I have seen are often older. They are not required to do any restraint, they are required to report on activities (depending on the site they work on). Personally I dont think 65 is considered "elderly" anymore. Thats really very young. Age is an attitude.

Also: what does he want to do? Anyone can be productive doing any occupation :) It depends on what you define as productive. Do you mean 'socially acceptable?"?

Does your father speak english? If he is fluent or comfortable, he may wish to look at Service advising, Parts clerk or Sales for a dealership, or company that manufactures heavy equipment etc. In Surrey, there are many companies that are desi owned/operated and perhaps he may want to do sales.

If he wants to branch away from Auto industry he can use his transferable skills elsewhere.

Thanks for replying morning_rain. Most of the ideas you gave is more towards job. Which we do not want him to do at this age, not because he is old but we want him to relax. He has worked so hard whole life.

What I am looking for is something interactive, he loves to give lectures on subjects like " Being Vegetarian"

He is very good Yoga Student (knows a lot about yoga),

He can speak English very well but loves to speak Hindi/Punjabi. Anyone has any ideas about multicultural organizations where he can work with them (not necessarily a job)

It's hard to explain... but something where he can talk to people (YES HE LOVES TO TALK) and help them, service them console them with kind words or with Aassans he has learnt or with knowledge he has about desi medicines.

He feels great satisfaction in helping someone make right choices about life.

He would find something to earn living but that's not his sole purpose in life. Anyway.... I am just taking chances by posting it on canadian desi. It's hard to explain what he is looking for. thanks again.

What about PICS? I believe they are always looking for volunteers.
They have a seniors complex at 72nd and Scott Road. I believe they also require volunteers to lead recreational activities.

They have a free day centre for seniors, and I think volunteers would always be welcomed for that.

Another one may be DiverseCity.

He loves to spend time with Seniors (even when he was not a senior). I think he would be very happy. He is learning Yoga for past six months from Guru Ramdev jee and now have started giving free classes in Delhi. He can do the same here.
