Hi all

I am in a critical situation, I am well employed with auto industry with around75k from the time i arrived in Canada and all seems fine. I now got as job offer from GE nuclear in a specialized field just wondering should i accept the offer.
I have lived in brampton for 10 years and kid study here and have a house and all is well.
The offer is for perterbrough and I am confused. This GE job was my passion and now i got it 10 years later. I am really confused, can i travel back and forth or forget it and reject the offer. The pay is around 5g more. But the future is promising in GE.
Well i will take my own decision , if anyone have any view or ideas on this do reply.

Thanks for yr views in advance

If this is your dream job, better pay, and with good growth prospects to boot, I think you should take it.
Forget about commuting from Brampton to Peterborough - it's not doable on a long term basis. You will be spending ~ 3 hrs. in commute each way every day.
It's better to move to Peterborough.
It's a smaller town, but not too bad.
Housing prices will be cheaper there than Brampton, so you will possibly be better off from expenses perspective too.
Relocating is emotionally hard initially, but within a year or so you will all adjust, including the kids.

I think $5K does not justify the move even it is a dream job and to a city from where if you want to move back, you have to give back a lot.

I do not think it is worth to uproot your family who are already settled.

In Canada, dream job does not matter, what matter is practicalibility. You need to evaluate that.

Hi There,

GE Nuclear has no hope. expecting new nuclear plant build & other unsecured project, GE is hiring staff.
New nuclear deal cancelled and no gurantees of securing other projects.

If the margin is not much, stick to your current proven secured job.

Keep a watch on OPG news on nuclear.

Cheers

Nor does the Auto industry in which OP is working and there for years. You moved across the continents to for better life, moving to Peterborough should not be a bigger deal when you see better prospects there. Cost of living will be relatively less along with more pay and little better company (Finance arm is currently in bad shape but others should be ok).
Moreover if you are willing to commute 3 hours everyday, I am sure commuting in other direction as needed won't be a problem.

Good luck!

You would know the prospect and importance of this job in your career ...

5K may just be the salary increase ... but due to lower cost of living , the effective increase may be much higher ...

Generally smaller towns have their own pluses ..... perhaps better education for school going kids ... ( debatable ) ..

Dream jobs do not come every time .... If you feel that this job may lead to better and stronger prospects down your career and gives you more satisfaction , why not go for it ??

You might have to relocate .... but heck did nt you do it to come to Canada ??

In all your posts you keep giving strong reasons to accept the new job and make the move.... what is stopping you? After all, whatever anybody says the bottom line is your decision. So go right on ahead and decide and enjoy life! When it comes to career decisions like these, i wouldn't ask folks out on the net what is best to do.
