Hi all,

It has been about a month over here. The experience so far has been ok.By god's grace i found some part time job here in a call centre as a telemarketer. Its really tuff to work. With that part time work i make like 900 $ a month which is not even enough for rent and transport.Back home in India I was making 40k a month.Iam not complaining anything. But one thing i can frankly tell there is nothing to boast about canada and nothing to degrade about india.Everyday still i feel i was good in india. Its just 1 month i knw but still even if tomorrow if I have good life in canada your heart will be in india because for basic things like food, house cleaning and all you struggle a lot.Every person out here wants to return but is not able to do so because of ego, etc.Even if you earn money(which is difficult now because of job market) you cant save the kind of money you saved in India.People over here struggle to make trips or vacation back home even after having home, cars etc because they cant afford 4000-5000$ for entire family. The job environment is too tuff here.Iam not here to discourage anyone from coming here but think 10 times before you make the move.Decide you want to lead a 2nd or 3rd grade life in a clean, non polluted and less populated country or a 1st grade life in a country with a bit of pollution lot of population and poor infrastructure(which is developing) Iam still very open to coming back and will decide in 2-3 months. But one thing for sure I cant live life long here and will return back for sure. There was an article which i read back home..if u want to become rich there is one city in the world which can do that if you work hard which is AAMCHI MUMBAI.I didnot beleive when i was there but now i realize.India and AAMCHI MUMBAI rock..thats what i realised after coming here.Iam sorry if i demotivated anyone out here but i just wanted to share few facts

Good discussion but each to his own :)
Its a matter of perspective and how you view it. I have also been here for almost a decade. Still miss India and look forward to going back every so often. But after some weeks there i want to rush back. Here is where home is now. I guess you just have to give it some time. After all its not the good old days when we would wait for 12 months to get immigration. Now its taking almost 3-5 years. So if you have gone through that long wait, then why not let the whole cycle run through. True some of us get settled in quite fast and for some its a struggle. India and Canada both have negatives and positives, but i strongly believe in the long run, Canada has stronger positives(specially when your children are concerned). That matters for me at least. I know the post graduation education they will get here (North America) is much better than what India has to offer.

I dont think just because of Post graduation for our children we should stay here..lot of kids become spoilt here that they dont do graduation sometimes..if you want your children to study they should do till 12th std in India.Otherwise they will get into the canadian culture which is not great for kids.If they study in India they will respect elders, will have value for money, will be well brought up.I dont think post graduation is bad in india,i can say its limited to specific streams. So if you want your kids to get post grad in canada let them come back after studies in india which has one of the best school education in the world.

You missed the point in my rambling ;)
Why spend 5 years to get immigration and then go back in 5 months :)
Moral of my rambling: Wait it out and give it some time.

Amen

So, you are suggesting that since OP spent 3 - 5 yrs waiting for immigration to come through, they should spend another few years living in the country, that too, miserably, in the hopes that maybe next year will be favorable.

Regarding kids, who knows what the life will be like in another 15-20 yrs in these countries. If you raise them capable enough, they won't have any problems moving to the countries where their parents could make it inspite of so many problems.

I don’t think you have to suffer in this country to give university education to your kids. Thousands of kids come to North America every year from India to get higher education, so you kids can come too.

The bottom line is if you don’t get comfortable in this country during first 10 month and have some sort of job security/ availability in India thn you can go back to India. Because if you don’t get any decent job within that time frame you safely can assume that this country is not fit for you (Although exceptions are always there). That's the choice you have to make and it would be better to make this choice sooner rather thn later.

It's my 12 year experience in this country, if you drag yourself on and on to get citizenship than 99% chances are of getting stuck here for good, because you will be useless for Indian employers.
So whatever decision you want to take, take within first 10 month or so.
Best of Luck
