If someone stays away from the province for more than a year and the card has expired, will they have to reapply for a new card? I tried to call Service Ontario and was on hold for a long time before I hung up.
I started reading Longer Absences from Ontario, I am kind of confused with the requirements.

Sorry for the delayed response -
1. you may be able to use the original ohip card, however the authorities may be able to track your absence (via your passport). IMO, its better to surrender the old one and reapply. I did that without any problems at all.
2. No, there was no problem at all in importing medicines. I made sure they were in their original packaging, carried the informational inserts as well as doctor's prescription. However noone checked.
