I am in canada and have a humanitarian and compassionate grounds claim submitted five years ago after the rejection of my refugee claim. I was called by CIC last december to update my information. I have not heard anything since. I recentlly got married and my spouse is a permanenet resident.
Can you pl guide me as I want to know if I should update my info with CIC that I am married now and it will expedite my H&C claim or I should forget about it and file for spousal sponsorship? Which of these will be quicker?
Thanks
CIC does ask all to those whose application is in process to update them with the information if there is change in your martial status, birth or death in the family, etc. In your case your marital status.
You might want to check with the CIC at 1-888-242-2100 before you decide anything.
As your spouse is a permanent resident, he can file an In-Canada spouse sponsorship application while your H&C application is pendinig. Simultaneously, you should inform the CIC that you have got married in Canada and your spouse has filed a sponsorship application

I did call CIC helpline. The representative said I should ask Edmonton CIC office as they have my H&C file. I couldn't find their ph number so I faxed my query to them. I also added the information in the fax that I am married to a PR now and included the spouse's PR # etc. Its been more than 3 weeks but I havent heard anything.
