I do know how death and subsequent formalities are handled in relation to Hindu deaths in India.
Does anybody know the process after death(either at home or in hospital) the costs involved, procedures(paper work) and subsequent cremation in the electric crematorium for hindus in Ontario, Canada?.
Hope the response will inform many of us about the legalities/financial committments and other issues which we are not prepared for in our life time.
A detailed step by step information on the process will be highly appreciated.

Sunny Leone a true Canadian DESI now back in India !.
My mother passed away in the hospital in Ontario while I had just arrived in India on a vacation.
Spoke to doctor and requested him to hold the body in morgue for 2-3 days while I fly back - No problem.
Arrived and called hospital. Was given phone number of a volunteer that advises on what to do in similar situations. - No need to go hospital.
Was asked to call some funeral homes nearby. Cremation rates vary from few thousands to several thousands depending on what you need.
Chose a simple private funeral at a funeral home. They arranged EVERYTHING including death certificates, transfer of body to funeral home and later on to cremation place, cleaning and preparing body for display at funeral home etc.
Simply went to funeral home, saw the body, travelled with them to funeral place which had electric furnace. Last goodbye kiss, body is moved into the furnace and that it is.
The ashes are picked up (if desired) and given to you by funeral home as well.
Basically they arrange everything...it is least painful here as compared to India where one has to arrange everything and battle all kinds of hassles but of course you have to pay for it.
The Indian consulate charges a fee to register death and there are even more charges to carry ashes to India. You need permission from airline as well and copies of cremation certificate as well . Some airlines do allow carrying of ashes as hand luggage provided they are in a hematically sealed box which is how they are provided by the funeral home.
Funeral home charges vary quite a bit so one needs to call around
Hope this is useful.
Thnaks for good information Gapodi and this is really good topic Vandematram,
I remembered quite some time ago in Canadian desi or in local desi newspaper someone put very helpful information for Hindus. where to contact at your local temple with very low charges for this all VIDHI and Cremation procedure for , but i forgot where it was.
Let me try to find out at home and if i found something than definately i will post information here.
2 cents from myside
Gapodi.... you should use body liquefaction process rather than http://www.cremation.net" target="_blank">cremation for funeral .... it is greener way of cremation... after this you can make diamond jewelry... to keep dadi near...
http://www.cremation.net" target="_blank">cremation is not the process of Hindu deaths.....
Thanks a lot Gapodi . Very informative ....

Fido.
Cremation is the process of Hindu tradition... Hindus believe that cremation (compared to burial or outside disintegration) is most spiritually beneficial to the departed soul...
