Hi all,
Iam currently in toronto,I came to toronto 3 months back.I have got a job offer in a IT company. But I have to relocate to Prince edward island.I dont have a full time job currently and I work for part time in a call centre as a out bound sales which is like 20 hrs a week..11$/hr sometimes i get more hrs also. The job which I have got is into IT support which may be not exactly the kind of job I want but I feel it would be better than this which is like 15$ per hr and 37 hrs a week and this kind of economy i cant really expect more for a new immigrant like me.But Iam little bit sceptical about moving to PEI Charolettetown since Iam afraid whether you get indian groceries, how are the rentals, etc.I dont knw, some mind set like moving to a rural place is coming into me.Can anyone help me regarding that place etc.Right now Iam staying alone,Iam a bachelor its like me and my brother thats it.what is the take on moving to PEI???
Hi Vivek,
I would say just go for it. For one, you're getting a job with more money and hours and furthermore, it would prove to be an asset in your resume in the long run. If you gain experience with this job now, you can always come back to Ontario when economy is better. You're new to the country and at this time what you need is the job in your field. Trust me, it's a great opportunity knocking on your door. Don't worry about the place. What if there will be less Indian people around? At least you will experience something new (isn't it why we're here in Canada?). I am sure you will get Indian groceries somewhere. And, even if not you should only concentrate on the job. Besides, you don't have a family yet, so can move anywhere based upon your job situation. Just one thought though - do not buy any house there if you don't plan to live there in the long run. Just rent a relatively inexpensive place and save as much as you can with your new job. When you will have saved enough and built a resume equity, and when Canadian job market rebounds, apply to Toronto jobs and come back to where your heart is. You will go good.
I was in exactly the same boat when landed in Toronto few years ago and when opportunity came knocking in Vancouver - I moved. Now, I have got enough Canadian experience in my field, which will be really useful in case if I want to move back to Toronto(the place I love truly). If I stayed there in Toronto at that point, I would still be doing the odd call centre job.
I can understand your concern with Indian groceries, which is genuine. Please research on google and you should be able to find something.
Congrats for your IT job and good luck! I am sure you'll do good.
Here's the contact info. for one of the Indian restaurant in Charlottetown, PE. What you can do is to call them and ask about any Indian grocery store around. I am sure they might know about it. Just try to make an inquiry and see if you could find something.

With in a month of landing in Toronto in 2006 , I got a job in Halifax NS and moved there till June 2008 after which I came to Toronto on another job .
The move to and fro was difficult but I look back upon the stint spent in Halifax as cherish able and always remember it as a paid vacation in a memorably beautiful part of the world I would have never experienced , had I got a job in Toronto in the first place .
Besides experiencing the beauty of the place (far beyond the GTA if I may say so ) , I also experienced different culture , cross section of Canadians from whom I learnt a lot .. It was a rewarding experience manifolds .
If you have not been able to secure a job in GTA for 3 mos , and have got an offer from PEI ........... please move ... it will be win win situation as per my experience above ......... Don't thinl of settling down there , if you don't wish to ............ you can always return to Toronto once the market situation changes .......

I feel really happy and motivated at your replies.Let me go and see how it works out
Hi all,
I have been told to move to prince edward island on 31st of July.I have spent 2 days so far in the company. The company is Millenium Care-www.milleniumcare.inc.The primary reason they are shifting the office is because of cost cutting. There was no formal induction neither they took my SIN number so far.I dont understand what is happening. All they gave was an offer letter to sign up thats it with a copy to me.I was made to sit for 2 days with a person who is working and he explained to me.The job is technical support/help desk kind of job with 15$/HR.35 hrs a week. The manager told me that a truck would be moving to PEI,and i can put my stuff in that and even i would be moving in that truck!!!! and its a 2 day drive so be prepared for it etc.He is going to provide me a 1 month accomodation in the home he is going to buy but since he is coming a month late he is giving it to me.There is no fixed date of pay.All its written semi monthly pay.And i saw ppl discussing abt pay getting delayed for 3-4 weeks and the manager asking the employees that whether they can push there pay for 1 more week. These kind of things are really bothering me and putting me into depression. At one side I see an opportunity at other side moving to PEI,financial stability of the company, making me move in the truck are making me afraid.Iam currently working in the evening also in a Call centre for my survival.Iam afraid that i dont lose both the jobs
