Dear Fourm Members ,

As i am preparing to come in Sept and getting my things in right way , CD is continously providing the information we need in same context.

May i request to please paste the link or Guide here from buying ticket (We already have plan to go for AIR INDIA) till we land in YYZ ( Pearson Airport ).

Initial Stay at freinds place for 2- 3 days and later to move out ( Is is possible to get rented place soon ).

What are the first few things which we will be doing ( after landing ).

What are the most important things which we are suppose to bring ( from India for our day to day life /Kitchen/ and for 16 mnths old baby( we are cross checking with all the info on CD ) .

How will be the climate in Sept 2nd week.

Please find time and suggest and guide.

Due to recession, my advise is don't leave your jobs. come here on vacations say for 2 months and complete your formalities, try for jobs, otherwise return to your jobs and migrate after recession is over. (we are here since may 9th and yet to get jobs)

since you are staying initially 2-3 days with friends, then they are people who will advise you best. take their advise and don't hurt them. They are good enough to accomodate you in their house, they have big heart. otherwise, nobody helped us, infact, inspite of having big independent detached 1+2 houses also, they told us to go to hotel for 2-3 days and then into rentals.
My advise is to carry as much as you can like utensils (Indian style),some medicines for yourself and child, some general things like baby oil, cream, toothpaste, shampoo, soaps, some sweaters and warm clothers, monkey caps for child and yourself etc. (put everything in check in luggage).carry clothes in cabin luggage.bring balankets, comforters, bedsheets, etc. carry baby foods enough for 6 months, milk powder, suppliementary food etc.

As for tickets, I think Jet airways i.e if your are coming from India otherwise check on bookingbuddy.com,kayak.com or cheap airfare .com and you will get cheapest tickets and also take help from your travelling agent and tell him to inform you if any promotion is going on with airlines. like we got cheap tickets from olympic airlines but we came from dubai.

once you land, till you get your medical card, keep yourself and your child fully covered with sweaters and caps, since it will be spring and little chilled. say 14-18 deg in sept. take extra care till you get medical card. (takes 3 months for medical card)

if you want more help then email id

Hi Oimnadniia

We moved to Toronto in the 1st week of July. We statyed with my Aunt and then rented an appartment. Regarding renting apartment you will need to provide 2 cheques one for the first month and one for the last month( 12 month lease). You will also have to give them you bank statement showing that you will be able to pay the 12 months rent. This is required if you do not have a job. Also since you will not have a car when you move to Toronto you must rent a place which is close to the subway so you can travel for interviews etc. We have rented an apartment just opp the subway station.

When we travelled my son was 18 months old and we carried enough of formula milk to last atleast a month and a half, even diapers( as many as you can carry). Try and find an early learning years centre close to you rented place and you can take your chile there for free and he can play with other kids and the toys and books they provide.

You will have to open an account in a branch here- may be TD bank is a good option to start with. We opened an account with HSBC in dubai and then open an account from there itself in Canada and so we had no problem with a draft etc. We just carried on us some CAD.

When we landed the very next day we went and did you SIN card. It took us 45mins and they even give you your SIN number which you will need for your bank account. Even the Health card is very fast and easy.

Hope all this info is helpful. You can PM me if you need more details.

you can bring either, but bank draft takes 25-30 days for clearance. If you are bringing bank draft please carry some cash with you say $3000/- to $ 5000/-so that, it will be of use to you till your draft gets cleared.
