Hi everyone,
My finace (now husband) and I landed in Canada in Feb '08.
We are moving there permanently in April '10
Has anyone faced any problems at immigration with regards to being out of Canada for so long?
We are afraid immigration migt cross question us as to why we stayed out for so long.This fear only arises because when we were doing our landingin '08 an immigration officer was firing another immigrant of coming back to the country a and when he pleased on his PR card.
Also, I most probably will be going back alone and my husband will follow later. Would this pose any problems as well?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Your residency obligations as a PR dictate that you complete 2 years in Canada in a 5 year period. If you are not violating this obligation and can prove it every time you enter the country, you should have nothing to fear. Just be firm and confident about this whenever questioned by immigration officials and you should be okay.
Dont worry, I came back almost three years after making my entry.
Let them say anything but they have to let you enter the country. At the most thay might want to see fi youhave a return ticket and will mention the date you left the country last in you passport.

What happens if you enter from the US?
Would that be a problem. I might be planning a vacation to see my sister in Seattle and then go to Vancouver for a weekend but I plan to settle in TO.
Any thoughts?
The Canadian immigration guys are idiots and think ppl are taking advantage of existing rules..
As long as u follow the rules these guys are helpless. I had to go though 1hr immigration clearance before they let me in.. i told them the truth i was out 2 yrs 11.5 months..
They warned me they will watch my entry and exits going forward and about losing PR if i am out another 15 days in the next 2 years..
3 years later i have already renewed my PR and have applied for citizenship..
Going to us is a different matter and u will need a visa for the same, as long as u have a visa.. u will be allowed to the US.. entry from US to canada is a lot easier than flying in.. basically at the border the immigration agents dont care about all these rules.. and will check ur PR and let u cross without asking many questions..
