Hi everyone…I need your tips/advise on the followings for my first visit to India on PR with a baby less than one year.

- Can I take baby’s bag with all diapers, cloths & Enfamil formula in that or may be at least baby’s some kind of food is provided by airlines?

- Do airlines provide any kind of baby seat/corner; small stroller or she will be with me during all the way on the same seat?

- Travel agent confirmed that the regular stroller I can take with me as luggage and will be counted as part of total allowed weight. Is it fine?

- I will be taking a part of total jewelry which I brought when first time I landed here? This part I showed while immigration check. It will be in my hand bag. Any problem with this?

- I want to bring more jewelry upon my return. Is it simply I show immigration officer and that’s it or some paper work or anything like that is required?

- Any specific things I need to take care of while travelling with small baby?

- What type of PR papers required while going to India and returning back?

Thanks and greatly appreciated!

You are allowed 1 additional cabin bag for the baby. You need to carry your own supply of food, clothes, diapers etc.

Airlines provide a bassinet for the kids - its like a small cradle on wheels. But you need to mention it while booking ticket and reconfirm 24hrs before travelling. Remember to note down the name of agent each time you talk to them - the date and time too. At time or checking in - ask the counter specifically to allot you seats with more leg room to accommodate the bassinet. It helps to arrive early and check-in. In most airlines you can reserve your seats either at the time of booking or also you can check in online 24hrs before travelling.

The stroller will not be counted as cabin baggage, it is allowed extra. They take away the stroller at the door of the aircraft and return it to you at the time of exit.

Check your airline's baggage policy online. Nowadays many airlines are charging for even the usually standard 2nd checking bag - so please review their policy online or speak to airline help desk directly.

No problem. When you leave canada, there is no immigration - nobody checks.

No comments - have no experience for this.

There are more threads relating to traveling with infants on CD, please use the search function.

If your child is accustomed to mouth plug/sucker - keep it handy during takeoff and landing. Or feed them/let them sip something. It helps to balance the air pressure in thier eardrum. Watch the kids movements/breathing every few hours - there have been accidents in the past.

Landing at Indian Airport - only Indian passport is enough. If the child is Canadian citizen, he/she will need the Canadian passport.
For coming back your Indian passport and PR card are enough.
If only 1 parent is travelling with the child - a letter of consent from the other parent is adviseable.

Good luck.

No paper work is required, just answer yes if immigration officer asks you whether you received or bought any gold? Also be prepared to answer approx. price...should be less than the allowance Canadian citizens are allowed to bring back after x number of days abroad.

You will need a valid passport plus PR card and or Canadian Passport + VISA for baby as well.

Buy lots of magzines/books with stickers, cartoons, pictures and also some toys (from dollar store) Open one after every hour to keep little one surprised and engaged.
Buy for return journey too and hide it well.

What little jewelry that I have, I have the original weight and price from where I bought the same. Those days there was no need for pictures etc., But currently they want an appraisal and an evaluation etc., for theft and also for the Custom(CBSA) verification and they issue to you a GREEN card (Pocket size) to carry with it. So, when ever you cross you have the jewelry and the proof of Canadian landing to go with it.

Since you already have it here in Canada, You can obtain this for your Camera, Lap top, Video, jewelry or any such item that calls for prior to departure from the air port CBSA offices at the airport terminal, on any working day and have it on you prior to departure. Please call them and find out their exact location rather than going from one to the next. They are very friendly and will provide you with all of the help and assistance.

You should have all of the details as to the shots that the baby was given and you too. Also any of the medicines that you and the baby normally need from time to time and it should be handy and close to you. Of course a favourite toy and the baby blanket are a must. Some do carry a baby pouch (Kangaroo) also.

You have got all of the able help and response from the others here. So, you should be all set for the travels with that kind of help.

One little item, they used to provide the infant with the type and make of baby formula that you normally use for food, also on board, previously. Please see if such is the case. If it is, then avail it. Some parents do not want to change the products.

In flight they will provide you with Hot water and sterilizing also. Please obtain a few of their zip lock or closing bags for the throw away diapers, because they overwhelm the passengers and some times the whole interior.

Some of the baby sky cots can be dropped and locked in front of your seat on the bulkheads and please ask for good seating and leg room to take care of the baby's needs from your seat. Also tag all of the babies items that you have to part with at the gangway door, for later retrieval, when you are disembarking. The air hostesses are really good in that way. They make sure that you have it and the baby is in it too when you leave.

Have a nice trip and bon voyage,

Freddie.

Its better to Keep laptop and Camcorder in your Handbag ( definitely not in the checked in Baggage ) .....
Checked in Baggage may never arrive .....

Good Luck .....
