I got my letter to appear for test today and date was also today @ 1:30 PM, some hours ago. Letter was posted on Oct 1, 2009.

Any advice what I can do now.

I applied in May 2008 and file transfer to Mississauga in Oct 2008.

Send a fax to the Mississauga office explaining this (and quoting your file number).
They will either re-schedule your test or send you notification to meet a CIC judge.
Re-scheduling usually occurs within a few weeks but appt. with judge takes a few months.

This is a very unfortunate incident. Does CIC goof up like this frequently?
Should they not have updated the website immediately about the test date notification?

I am keep on checking my online status daily (since last 6 months), status is not updated even upto today after test date is already passed. So they take some time to update online status.

I was in almost similar situation.
I had gone to india for vaccation and had informed CIC about my period of absence before leaving as I was expecting test date somewhere in october/november.
CSR had told me not to worry as they have put a note in my file.
After returning from India I had big pile of mail to check and one of them was the letter for the test from CIC.
I immediately called CIC telling them that I had assured in advance that nothing will be sent in my absence and tomorrow is the test, could I skip this test? I told him to check the note in my file.
CSR replied that note was definitely there but nobody had blocked my file and if I don't want to appear for test tomorrow that is fine too as skipping first test is no big deal they will again send me test date in 4-5 months. And if i fail it will still take the same time.
I took the decision to write the test, it was very simple, I think if somebody living in Canada for 3-4 years can easily answer all the questions correctly.
I studied hard thinking they are going to ask all the years/dates of.. whatever is in the book and all the parties their leaders/memebers etc. Nothing like that came in the test, I fininshed my test in less than 5 minutes.
