Can you be more specific? What is your reason for asking?
Starting a thread with just this is likely going to lead to thread wars and controversial discussions.

I think Indian education is much better if it is in the field of science/math. I don't know about other fields. You get more chance to solve the problems in schools/universities. Less use of calculators/computers increases the brain power of logical thinking.

Look at the competition for the entrance exams like IIT-JEE. I don't see equivalent in Canada. Students in Canada hardly get any home work to do.

Indian education system (science/maths/Engineering) is too theoretical while Canadian education system gives importance to the practical stuff. Also, Canadian education system encourages self-study (i.e. being more independent) while giving you a lot of facilities (like excellent labs, books, latest softwares, etc). Whereas Indian education system relies more on student-teacher relationship ( following the professors).

My opinion: We should not compare (or generalize) with IIT/JEE, because the excellent institution like like IIT is unique in India - IIts are far ahead and better than most of the other institutions in India.

I tend to belive in the weakness of math/science education in Canada. I think it's more due to options that may be offered to the students and students taking the path of least resistance, thereby skirting by with the basic math curriculum instead of advance (which may be a standard/mandatory in Indian schools).

Regarding calcs, I was told that Essex district (greater Windsor) schools don't allow calcs until after 10th grade (based on chats with neighbors and such). If that is true, nothing too different than what I had when I was in school. I was allowed to use calcs in high school in the late 80s.

On homeworks, hmmm...I don't know, the kids in 3rd, 4th and 5 th grade in my neighborhood seem to be getting killed with projects and homework right from week 1 of their academic year. Could it be school to school, teacher to teacher....?
