I want to visit India within a month but my pr card got my dad's last name on it and my indian passport got my married last name. i was just wondering if it would be a problem at indian airport when i'll come back to canada from India. anybody please help
interesting situation.
Just for iilustration purposes my name is Lalit Janat Kumar where Lalit is my name , Janat is my Dad's first name, and Kumar is both my Dad's and mine last name.
I was livng in Spain for several years before coming here and had adopted the name Lorenzo in Spain.
When I came here my PR card had my name as Lorenzo Janat (In Spain the middle name becomes the last name so I was known as Senor Janat rather than Senor Kumar) and my passport had my name as Lalit Kumar.
I also went to India right after getting my PR card and when I came back I was given hell at Pearson airport,so to speak, as my PR card had Lorenzo Janat and my passport read Lalit Kumar. I don't blame the authorities.
Anyways, while in Mumbai i had gone to the Canadian consulate and explained the issue to them that my PR card had my Spanish ID name on it and got a letter which I carried on me which I showed the authorities here which coupled with my Spanish ID card that had emblazoned on it Lorenzo Janat Kumar, I was let thru.
Subsequently I had my name changed on my PR card to Lalit Kumar.
I don't know where you are in India, but if you can visit a Can consulate and get an explanatory letter from them, I don't think you'll have a problem, though things have changed since 2003 when the incident happened to me.
I didn't have any issues at the Mumbai airport though.
Why not try to change your PR card name before you leave? In my case it took six weeks to get the new card under normal routine procedures, but if you explain that you wanna split in a month, they might just accommodate you and give you within that time span.
I would also like to know the same as I am applying for my PR card, should it be under my maiden name (as on my passport) or under my married name (as I go by everywhere here!)
Thanks
If you would like to use married name go ahead but also get your passport changed to reflect that before applying for PR. If you would like to keep using your maiden surname, you can do that too.

Hi
I have the same issue with my PR card and Passport name.
I have my maiden name on my Canadian PR card
and my married name on my new passport.
Did you have any issues with getting into canada.
My old passport does have my old name.
Thanks
Joanna
