The flag Hoisting Ceremony on the occasion of 61st Republic Day of India will be held on Tuesday, 26th January 2010 at the Consulate General of India, Suite 700, 365 Bloor Street East, Toronto - M4W 3L4. (The nearest intersection is Bloor and Sherbourne and the nearest subway station is Sherburne)
All Indians, persons of Indian origin and friends are cordially invited to attend.

I can not get time off from $12 an hour job or else I will lose it.
However, if someone does attend the same, I request that person to ask one question to the joker who is in charge of the consulate " Why does no one pick up the telephone ever?"
I once had to go to the Toronto consulate and I sat in the room for 25 minutes. Meanwhile, twice he picked up his cell phone interrupting my conversation and talked in Punjabi (Could not make out much ). The joker did not even had common courtesy to say "Sorry". At the end of the meeting, I thanked him and told that I tried to contact the consulate office over telephone, but nobody answered it. He did not react to that.
I am sure these guys can not recite even National Anthem. Probably theywill hoist National Flag made in China and play National Anthem on CD player. If some young person goes to attend the function, he would get very nasty impression about India.

They are pathetic. I agree with you Nightmare. They do not answer phone and make mistakes with whatever they do and they are never apologetic about the silly mistakes they make. They did not put proper Canadian address of mine while I was renewing my passport.
We feel for our country but the consulate employees are still having the corrupt mindset like politicians and bureaucracy in India.

I disagree. I went there few times and found them much helpful and courteous. Well, its a personal opinion from my point of view. Its true that I too had to face inconveniences while I was there. But still its understandable as its not so easy to deal with such crowds with diverse reasons to be there.

Especially desi crowd. Simple, self explanatory instructions are repeatedly asked till the consulate staff goes mental. Its like a sabzi mandi.
Not saying the consular staff is always perfect, but the latent desi habits instinctively awaken within the visitors(even those who have lived for decades in a more orderly society like Canada) . I wouldn't be surprised if the consulate retorts to lathi charge in near future. Let's cut 'em some slack.

Really? There is a simple solution. Employ some White guys or girls for $10.00 an hour. Desis instictively follow their command and respect them. A waitress can be the top most person of India just because of her skin, why not to control the behaviour of Desi crowd by employing some white person?
Still this does not justify not picking telephone nor a very rude behaviour of answering mobile while attending a visitor and talk about trivial matters. These guys have little work ethics
Well they are not there to provide customer service, if you are looking for nice service goto moxies or someplace.
if ppl follow the simple instructions like canadians born in canada do - then they dont even have to be there, they can get excellent service by mail.
only ppl who egt inconvenienced are ppl who cant read, or have a mental block because they were indians before - o yea we're not indian anymore did you realize - so whatever service we are getting is a courtesy by the staff.
goto the US consulate and complain that you had to wait - they'll probably ban you for life and kick you out, but im pretty sure our friends dont have the gall to say anything

us consulate does not have to give specific reasons for refusal - indian consulate does
indian consulate serves way mre ppl travelling to way to many places and asking to do business with india
we - who are no longer indian - coz we are canadian should behave like true Canadians, respect their rules and their space - they as in Indian consulate, follow them to the T like our other Canadians who were born in Canada do and only stick to our purpouse when we go there. Its not our business to decide who should use their cell phone when, it may be some emergency call - someone dying at an airport somewhere in the world.
i guess it too much to ask desis not to be desi, but stop complaining guys do ur stff be good canadians and photocopy your own stuff dont ask favors like asking them to take 5 year old photographs that you brought from india when you first came, which you wouldnt dare ask any other consulate. and im pretty sure you will have no need to to be treated like kids.
