A R Rahman strikes Grammys gold

LOS ANGELES: Music composer A R Rahman on Monday scored a double triumph at the Grammy Awards here, scooping two early honours for his music from Oscar-winning film \"Slumdog Millionaire\".
Rahman won the 
first Grammy of the pre-show at the Staples Center in the best compilation soundtrack for a motion picture category before his \"Jai Ho\" won in the best motion picture song category moments later.
\"This is insane, god is great again,\" Rahman said as he accepted his second award before a VIP audience.
Rahman's rivals in the soundtrack category included Steve Jordan for \"Cadillac Records,\" Quentin Tarantino for \"Inglourious Basterds\", and the producers of \"Twilight\" and \"True Blood.\"
In the best song category Rahman's beaten rivals included Bruce Springsteen for his song \"The Wrestler\", from the Oscar-nominated movie of the same name.
The Grammy success comes after Rahman earned two Oscars for his music in \"Slumdog Millionaire\" at last year's Academy Awards.
The talented music maestro picked up the best original score statuette before scooping the best song Oscar.

I think Rahman is a genius. Its odd that he is receiving so many awards for one of his works that I find not as good as his other work. But I guess this one was for the west.
Yes, AR Rahman was not at his best for 'Jai Ho'
He has given some amazing music in so many other movies
But it was never appreciated by West
I don't why Western countries are so much crazy about this 'Slumdog' movie
Just because its showing some reality in India
Rehman is no longer the one he was before (music-wise). 'Jai Ho' was quite ordinary. I wonder if it were picturized on Akshay Kumar in a typical Bollywood movie, would it really find its place in Oscars, Grammys? Your guess is as good as mine. No. Additionally, I personally believe Rehman's music is stagnant now - listen to 'Blue' and you would find out what I am saying.
May be he was best in the past (Roza, Bombay, Rangeela's music score was his best)- but now he's just an ordinary music director like anyone else. He's just reaping fruits of his past few hits. Remember an era when he was labelled as 'repetitive'? I still find him repetitive. Well, that's me. He doesn't even come closer to his southern counterpart - Illayraja. In present days there's no music director worth his/her salt who is consistent - leave aside Rehman. Gone are the days of RD, LP, Nayyars, SD.
In my opinion, a good music director/maestro is the one who is consistent, does not shell out music like 'Blue' in between his best works.
Or, may be it's only I who think this way. And, by the way he doesn't deserve all the awards for 'Jai Ho' - just an ordinary song that any small time music director could compose.
