How is Winnipeg?

1) Cost of living
2) School education / University education
3) Weather.
4) Muslim Community
5) Desi Stores and groceries
6) Accommodation and areas considered safe for kids

The reason I am relocating is to sponsor my brother under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.....If NOT Winnipeg then some other Town / City in Manitoba keeping the above points in mind....

Any help or guidance will be highly appreciated, thanks.

If the reason for your relocation is to sponsor a family member (appreciate your sacrifice !), then you need not think of any other caveat. You are doing the right thing.
I have traveled to WP for few months for work. yes it is boring, winter is harsh and not many options. But I am sure you are not looking for merry making. School/education I heard is very good, desi stores and restaurants are there. I even met one muslim taxi driver and chatted with him. He shifted from Montreal some years ago with his large family of 8 people, all kids are now well educated (medicine) and settled and he also sponsored his brother's family and got him settled. He even opened a business in food court which he closed after few years. I think he mentioned about a mosque and community for muslims. I am not overly enthusiastic about such communities so ignored that topic. He seemed content with his achievements and the move to wp. Btw he was cribbing that his now estranged brother is not so happy and not in good terms with him.

I 'll advice you to stay couple of kms away from downtown , as downtown is the only place which is not considered safe because of too many homies around living on free-bies from MB govt. Vicinity areas are all safe and good to live.

lol, I realized it now, failed to read the date.

On side note, been giving feedback to CD cite owners that the date of post is not so visible and at times we answer an old post in current times to a long gone user . I am generally conscious of that fact but got foxed again.. anyway info given is still valid.

-- We tend to answer the old posts because the old thread is "hijacked" by the new person. People should start a new thread (for their new post/question) instead of using the previous/dead thread.
