Hi,
I just stumbled on this site and was happy to find so much info & so many people ready to help the newcomers. I have just got my papers cleared, and planning of making my entry in Edmonton in July. I have only 4-5 days to complete the basics paperwork and head back to my country. Could you'll advise on the following :
1. Time to receive the PR Card
2. Procedure to apply for a driving license, time taken, any dependencies on the PR Card ?
3. Procedure to apply for the SIN card, time taken, any dependencies on the PR Card ?
4. Procedure to apply for bank account, time taken, any dependencies on the PR Card ?
I know that I dont have to apply for a health card since I wont be staying on in Canada this trip.
Thanks in advance for your advise.
Hi,
1. I received my PR card in 2 weeks.
2. You can go to any Driver's license office and if you take a written test, they issue the G1 license immediately. Pl. confirm with others as I didn't do it.
3. You can go to the HRDC office and apply with the copy of COPR and passport, it was mailed in 3 weeks.
4. You can go to any bank with the copy of COPR and passport , you can open a bank account immediately.
Raajen,
I also want to come to Canada, get PR and come back to US. Was there any problem with Canadian customs if you didnt take all belongings with you initialy? Also, for showing financial viability, did you take a bank draft or is a bank statement?
Regards.
Hi,
I went to Canada for a week and came back to US. I gave the list of goods which will follow later. So no problem. I took a Cashiers check for some amount and the bank statement. But immigration officer didn't ask me to show proof of funds.
Raajen,
Thank you so much for the promt reply. That was very helpful.
Regards.
Raajen,
I am a bit confused now... you mentioned something about providing a list of things that would follow. Well i do not plan to return back to Canada for about 1 year as I think I would need that long to wind up things back home. What do I do in this case.
Also I would only be carrying just enough funds for my few days visit. Do I need to carry proof of funds that I have back home ???
Do need some advise of opening bank accounts in Canada. Have checked on the net for HSBC, Citi and Royal Bank of Canada. All of them have $10-20 monthly service charge. I do not plan to perform any transactions in Canada, do I still open an account ????
