Pretty crazy!!

Canada Pensions...

Only in Canada

* It is interesting to know that the federal Government of Canada
allows :

A monthly pension of : $1,890.00 to a simple refugee
plus : 580.00 in social aid

==========
A grand total of : $2,470.00 monthly

X 12 months

==========
$28,920.00 annual income

By comparison, the Old Age Pension of a senior citizen who has
contributed to the development of Our Beautiful Big Country during 40
or 50 years, CANNOT receive more than :

Amount/month $1,012.00 in Old Age Pension and
Guaranteed Income Supplement

X 12 months

============

$12,144.00 annual income

A difference of : $16,776.00 per year

* Perhaps our senior citizens should ask for the Status of
Refugees instead of applying for Old Age Pension.

* Let us send this message to as many Canadians as
possible, and maybe the allowance of refugee could then be reduced to
$1,012.00, and that of our Canadian pensioners raised to $2,470.00 per
month. (who actually deserve it) the money that they have been
paying in income taxes for 40 or 50 years,

AN INCREDIBLE NONSENSE !!!

OUR CANADIAN SENIORS CITIZENS, DESERVE BETTER

The refugees who come to Canada have been through a very horrible life experience. They do not have any resources. Probably the assumption is that a senior citizen will have savings / RRSP/ private pension plan to fall back upon.

Further, the countries which have signed UN charter of rights for refugees have to provide certain minimum benefits.

Refugees also provide some other benefits. I hope you will recall a judge's efforts to seduce a Korean refugee girl which was exposed. I guess that does not happen in all the cases.

Most of the refugees are from African/ Arabic countries which suppress them and have no human rights. Thus they provide Canada with much sought after diversity.

We should be happy that they prefer Canada as their preferred place to settle.

I think if you are concerned about disparity in pension, then you also should take a look at pensions of MPP and MPs which are disproportionate to the valuable service that they provide to Canada.

Hi friends,
I shall agree with Vandematram on the fact that Legal , old Citizens of the country definitely deserves more than the refugees receive.
Afterall these old people have contributed to the development of the country more than the refugees.
When paying the refugees is a kind of charity and supporting humanitarian cause , but this definetely shall not exceed what these old people have laboured for all their working age.

When pitying on the refugees who manage to come and obtain shelter here in canada are fortunate enough to atleast having made it to this country, compare to all those millions in India who are far far far less fortunate for even a shelter in their own country.

Refugees do not have any resources like savings / RRSP/ private pension plan to fall back upon. Further they do not have proficiency in language that they can seek a job. Once they are granted landing status, payment to them ceases and hence it is for a very short period while payment to senior citizens is for the rest of the life. The refugees, when they graduate to the status of senior citizen are also paid the same amount as other senior citizens. I think comparison with senior citizen is not appropriate due to very short period during which they will receive the payment till their status is determined and absorbed as landed person or deported. In any case Canada also immensely benefit by supporting humanitarian cause and the refugees enrich our society by providing much needed diversity.

Guys this has to change. I was aware of this but not the magnitude. Give refugees job. Put them to the government funded construction jobs with minimum pay, let them earn there living and contribute to the economy. This is the same loophole in the democratic system people use to come in as refugee and also those who spread extremism. I want to know which non-democratic country tolerates such atrocious expense.

Non democratic countries have their own atrocious expenses.
The ruling family or party members siphon off public funds and use it for lavish lifestyles of their own.
Think of the Communist Party members in the USSR or the family of dictators like Saddam Hussein.
Would you consider India a democratic country, no?
If so, think about all the public monies siphoned off by the political leaders like Laloo Prasad, etc.
Not to mention the smaller MPs, MLAs appropriating public funds.

The original post about the amount of money a refugee gets is all hogwash and BS spread by some interest group or other.
Refugees do NOT get $1,890 every month.
It is a one-time payment only.
Also, the monthly allowance is not life-long.
It is for a limited period only - maybe a year or two.
OTOH, OAS, GIC etc. are life-long for pensioners.

Do not believe such balderdash spread by some limited interest groups.

The refugees also provide much needed diversity to our landscape. They also help fuel and sustain struggle for freedom and human rights in their country of origin. Srilankans did that for many years by contributing to LTTE. Khalistani are doing the same by contributing money and providing a platform. Recently Kamal Nath, India’s minister for Roads and infrastructure was embarrassed in Toronto. The Jamaican Gang members supply drugs to the desperate youths of Canada and thus provide life line. Further, influx of refugees provides well paying jobs to many Canadians in these desperate times. Many NGOs are actively involved in raising money for them, Refugee boards employ judges and administrative staff, rent buildings and employ clerks, police and border security requires many more people to be employed. If you are well connected to the party in power, then you can buy a motel and that will be leased on long term basis at handsome rental by the refugee boards. The Government needs to construct low cost housing to accommodate them and LINK classes employ thousands of teachers to impart knowledge of English and French. List is unending. Thus Refugees contribute to employment growth immensely and benefit to the country.
