Hi All,
I am yet to arrive in canada. I would have some queries regarding schooling of kids.
I have read some where about the different boards existing in toronto region. Peel York. Also some sort of impression reflected has been thast York is better off than Peel. I have reasons for neither as I just read it.
Can somebody guide me in this. Though I do not believe much in profiling however I suspect I would be somewhat keen in having some Indian community around as well and not just Italian/Chinese as my neighbors.
Please guide.
Also let me know the concepts of boards in their. In India as we all know it just CBSE what is this concept all about.
Thanks

Shri Dhankar Bhai,
Schooling is pretty dismal in Peel but thats all over Canada. 8th grade means what is college in India and 12 is like gradution. 905 of kids leave education to petty jobs (they call it TRADES) and end up a smechanics, carpenters and Mcdonald waiters. There are no text books, no syllabus, no home work, no nothing actually as teachers give students assignments dating back to 70s for students and their evaluation. My son isnow in 7th grade in school in Canada and he is backward by 2 years in terms of basic elementary education as compared to Canada. No doubt elementary education (1-7) here is primitive as compared to India and you will fin dyour child drawing butterflies even upto 7th grade. I have heard that in high school 8-12 the entire burden of education is levied in kids due to which kids leave the schools and start petty jobs.
Also since 13 years is considered an adult age in terms of getting jobs etc, majority of students dont go to college as wecallit as its very expensive even for citizens. My sisters daughter got admission in Law at the University now and her fee os close to $76000.
Same course in USA cost 40% and has much more appreciation and value. Canadian education is hardly known worldwide and is meant for local jobs only.
I suggest you go for private schools in ON where at least your child will ahve better attention and knowledgethan the normal free sarkari school. But it costs $500-1000 a month if you can afford it.
Also if you put yourkids in Indian majority school, you will find your kids in more mess.
Takecare
