Hello CD's

A friend of mine needs somebody who can renovate their house in Toronto. It was built in the 60's and there is really a lot of renovation to be done. Some of them are

Expansion of the house
Insulation
Plumbing
Electrical
Waterproofing
Underground drainage
Drywall
Painting
Kitchen & bath cabinets

Since there's a lot of expansion and moving of walls, they need somebody who can take care getting all the permits, coordinate different trades and do things in an organised way.
If you know anybody who is reasonable and trustworthy, please recommend.

This is a complex matter. these kind of jobs require a General Contractor licensed by the city of Toronto.
Do not try to engage any individual trades by yourself or you will be deemed the constructor and will become responsible for all incidents and accidents.

There are a lot of permit issues involved and any Gen Cont you engage has to file a declaration with Occup health and Safety along with a lot other requirements.

there are new codes in effect now for Toronto for electric and plumbing so don't just go with the joe's , engage a pro. Of couse this will be a more expensive affair but at least you will not get into trouble.

Stay hands off as much as possible and do keep your home insurance company posted and take into consideration their requirements.

Make sure the contractor you engage has a minimum of 2 mill insurance for every incident.

Go to a pro.

Deepbluesky, why don't you be sincere and tell forum that, you tried to exploit his good nature, made him wait for 4 hours and took him 5-6 times to home depot in bashir's car and took undue advantage of his good nature and on top of it, you paid him half the money he demanded after completing work.

Were you professional? Mind you, bashir drove all the way from dixon to milton since this person called him atleast 10 times on phone. He made him wait for 4 hours to do the work. alas he was paid $60/-
