Hi,
My neighbour is from Pakistan. She is appearing for her citizenship test shortly. As she is not fluent in English, she requested me to translate the citizenship questions in Urdu. Unfortunately I don’t speak Urdu (I am fluent in Hindi but not Urdu). I thought of using translation software (Google translation), but knowing current translation packages I am not sure if the end product will be good.
If you have any ideas, please do let me know.
Thanks for your time.
Regards
Crisraj
By the way is it citizenship test for pakistan
She must concentrate on learning urdu well. I wonder do we have IULTS on the pattern of IELTS for urdu testing. Do they have bands or some other format like AK 1-9.
imate1 - this guy is looking help for his neighbour and you are making fun on him - If you dont know the answer then its better u shut up your mouth.
Sorry Crisraj i am not fluent in urdu /hindi - check with Citizenship office, may be they can help u.
I don't think its a good idea to have all that translated into urdu.
Citizenship rules says that the person should have adequate knowledge of English or French
What is meant by “adequate knowledge of English or French”?
In order to acquire Canadian citizenship, you must demonstrate an adequate knowledge of English or French, Canada’s two official languages. Adequate knowledge of English or French means the ability to speak one of Canada’s official languages well enough to communicate with people. An applicant must know enough English or French to understand other people and for others to understand them.

Regards,
Thanks for responses new york and shyboy.
Yes I think she is aware that she needs to be fluent in English. I guess for preparation for the exam, she wanted the questions translated.
I work at Montreal, which requires good command in French language. I have basic conversational skills in French but often times i do get communications (via email) for which i use translation software (freetranslation.com) to convert from French to English. Though it may not be good but I can get a gist of the message.
The site does have an option to convert English to Urdu, but I am not able to confirm whether the translation is good or not?
imate1: that was creative post (IULTS and AK 1-9 )
It did make me smile but did not solve the problem, may be next time you can suggest creative ways to help her
Thanks again everyone for your time and effort on this.
regards
Crisraj
IMO,
it doesn't help even if you changed all questions in Urdu, whatever i know that citizenship question paper still in English, if she is not adequate in english than how she will understand what the question says.
best way to tell her to joint some English classes to make herself comfortable before appear in test.
2 cents from myside......
