Work Permit to PR

I am coming to Canada on Work Permit under IT skilled category (which is suppose to end in September 2010). My employing company's HR is saying that they will get a work permit only for 1 year for this category and I can apply for PR only after completing 2 years in Canada.

Is there a way I can apply for PR once I land in Canada and don't have to wait for 2 years?

Try to search for FSW2 Category PR on CIC website.
