Hello,
I am in Toronto on open work permit, working as a software engineer in a contract position. By end of next month I am applying PR in Canadian Experience Class(CEC) since I am completing my two years of working experience(Full time and Contract job) in Canada also I have done my masters in Halifax, Novascotia, Canada.
I got recently married and my wife is with me now on open work permit as a accompanying spouse. We are applying PR together next month.
QUESTION: My open work permit expiries coming Sep-01-2012.
So if i apply PR in the month of MAY-01-2012, approximately it takes 12 months to get PR I think.
1. Meanwhile how can I extend my work permit?
2. DO I need to Extend my work permit while my PR application is in process?
3. Can I apply myself?
4. Employer should apply for me?(I am in full time but CONTRACT job)
Any information regarding would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Karthik.
I believe you have your open WP based (for 2 years) on your education. Now in order to extend that you have to apply for regular WP which has to be sponsored by your employer. If that is the case you are good and you will be in "Implied status" and legally be able to work until a decission is made. Otherwise you will be out of status (not legal to stay in Canada).
Atleast one of you need to get a regular WP asap.
PR has nothing to do with WP.
Oh.. Is it? Then i will talk to my employer asap.
Thank you so much for the info.
