I am working in Canada on Temporary work permit from past 2 years, My Wp is expired recently and applied for extension. The application is not yet processed and only have status letter from lawyer which says you can stay in canada legally until you receive response from CIC.

Now i am planning to apply for PR under Canadian Experience Class. i have all the documentation ready except work permit, Can i go ahead and apply for PR by providing status letter or wait to get work permit?

As per documentation check list, we need to submit work permit that shows we are legally staying in Canada.
