This is Mayank from the United States. I have an option of applying for PR of canada as i completed one year on H1b here and also have US masters. I am thinking of applying it as the job here is not good and i fear a possible layoff soon. I want to know from all you guys there how beneficial it will be to apply for canadian PR, How is the economy doing? How is the mech engineering jobs there? If you can shed some light it will be helpful . I am MSME from US and 5 years of exp in design and analysis.

First of all, make sure your profession is eligible for the PR. Visit http://www.cic.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK to get info.
Second, if you are eligible, just to get a sense of reality, read other threads where tons have been expressed about immigrants' difficulties in obtaining a job.
While US experience is considered in Canada, besides the assurance of "permanence" out of a PR status, life may not be easy for at least few years. Again, kinda review the threads to see what others have said.
The job market is fluid right now or I should say bad, but who knows, it might recover, how soon....who knows.

i have to agree and disagree here. Agree that it won't be as easy without the Canadian experience.
But disagree completely that the new immigrant experiences would apply as US masters + US experience puts you in a different category. It's people coming in with Indian degrees that have it rough.
What I can't confirm is the job market situation, whether it is really good in your field of expertise or not.
What kind of experience do you have? Unless it is something unique that is hard to find, the engineering job scenario is not good, atleast in Ontario. Manufacturing sector is on decline.

Indeed, the market may not be the best as pointed out above. But you should not have a problem in terms of your experience counting in Canada.

I am MSME from US and experienced. I have experience in design and analysis. Like 3D modeling software, FEA software, vendor development etc.
Are these kinds of jobs are available in canada? There is some agency calling me daily to apply for PR in Canada. They said they will put me in Alberta category something. i dont know what all it means

Hi,
Only holding the US visa might not help under the Alberta nomination program (ANP) as the program has been susspended for the US visa holders as of Aug 23 2010, see the link: (http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrating/ainp.html), I would say, Clarify with the agency/ prospective employers in Alberta that if they are willing to sponsor you (under the ANP, details are in the same link posted above) however in that case the employer have to convince HRDC that your qualifications and skills set can not be filled out locally ( i.e. no canadianian citizen/ PR can fill up the position).
