Baggage Policy Update for Travel to India
Effective for travel beginning November 15, 2010, Economy Class passengers purchasing tickets with Air Canada, United, Continental or Lufthansa, with connecting flights to India, will be able to check one bag for free to final destination, in addition to permitted carry-on baggage.

Economy class passengers may check a second piece of baggage for $50 CAD, consistent with the carriers’ existing checked baggage policies between North America and Europe.

This change applies to tickets issued by Air Canada and Lufthansa effective November 15, 2010, and tickets issued by United and Continental effective October 19, 2010, for travel beginning Nov. 15, 2010. Codeshare flights are subject to the policies of the operating carrier.

The fee for a second checked bag to/from India will not apply to Air Canada Prestige, Elite, Super Elite members or Star Alliance Silver and Gold members. Executive Class and Executive First customers continue to receive an allowance of three checked bags on all flights, regardless of destination.

You can check in (get boarding passes) 24hrs prior to your departure (check with your airlines portal, not available for all flights). However, if you are travelling with baggage, you will have to check in with curbside baggage drop off ($2.00 per item) or proceed to check in counter to drop off your bags.

I have done online check in many times to and fro US, not for INDIA - but suppose the rules are the same.

Have a great trip.

Which airlines are you traveling? If you traveling by Air Canada or Lufthansa, the rules are only applicable for tickets purchased on or after November 15. Contact the airlines to confirm.

.....This change applies to tickets issued by Air Canada and Lufthansa effective November 15, 2010, and tickets issued by United and Continental effective October 19, 2010, for travel beginning Nov. 15, 2010.....
