One of friends asked me if it is possible to get Ipad 64 GB Ipad + Wifi+ 3G from Canada and will it work in India. Has anyone done that and does anyone know if the network in India supports it and do you have to unlock it from the 3G provider in Canada?

It will work only if,
1) You get it unlocked
2) You have BSNL network in your city. I dont think other providers provide prepaid services for ipad.

So far what I have come to know is that Ipad sold in Canada is not locked any service provider and you have to call the service provider and they can activate the 3G on your Ipad.
Ipad uses micro SIM, so regular SIM in India from the 3G provider will have to be carefully cut to smaller size preserving the chip to fit the slot in Ipad.
