MPPs are well aware of the existance and entrance regulations of Catholic schools. Dalton McGuinty went to one. These schools are currently protected by the constitution although it can be amended and they can be defunded as they have been in other provinces including Quebec which was originally a very Catholic province.
Catholic schools use the same curriculum as other schools, and all children are entitled to public school but not to any public school - for example they also can't register at one outside of their cachement area if it is full. This often means children from poorer neighbourhoods have to attend worse schools and their parents can't get them enrolled in the schools in better neighbourhoods.
I went to Catholic school and would have rather gone to public school. Few of my classmates were religious anyway but the school avoided admitting those without Christian heritage as they then requested to be exempt from religion class and from the religious activities and someone had to supervise them separately.
