I think there might be different rules in different schools..we r hindus and our son goes to catholic school...they did ask if we were Christians and we said NO...so they said they have to consult higher management and finally they accepted him...so i dont think its something to do with the system..it varies from school to school and though they teach him some religious stuff, they r very good when it comes to discipline and manners...

I think he lives in Niagara area. Sometime schools take children if other school is far away and if they have space.

Why would one want to study in a catholic school when they preach a different religion which is not acceptable by the student. Wont the child get confused why they are following a different religion at home when the school teaches another one?
it is wise to send to a public school if your faith clashes, rather than mentally tormenting the child on his faith. It is too young an age to understand the complexities of religion and child will be confused why he cant follow christianity instead of other religion.
On the otherhand if parents are open to the child being attracted to a different faith it should be fine being in a catholic school.

It's got nothing to do with religion; it’s only a matter of convenience/good school.
Besides, we both went to missionary schools in India from beginning to end, where we read bible, said prayers in the morning, and had Anglo-Indian teachers. Does that mean we discarded our own religion? Off course not, we still practice our own religion in a very active way.
We would like our child to grow up in an environment where all religions are given equal value, which helps in understanding other communities and their ways of life/worship, and overall peace amongst various communities.

IMO, the child shouldn't be taught/influenced by any religion until he/she turns 25. Until then, a person is too immature to understand the concept of religion. Once he/she is mature enough, he/she can decide, which religion to choose IF necessary.

But again, logic and rational thoughts always have to bow down before religion :( :cuss:

Propagation of religion is one of the main aims of Christianity. School is a place where education is imparted and has got nothing to do with religion be it Christianity, Islam, Hinduism or any other. It is a place to impart good moral values into young mind.
Young minds are very mouldable and what they see and learn at young age has an impact through out their life. When sending a child to a school in my humble opinion it is wrong for the school to say that they teach a particular religious value and it is wrong for the parent to send a child to a school just because it is based on a particular religious value.
