Well you are right but Go train is another mode of transport which many folks use for their daily commute.
Let me give you example as of today.
Mississauga is costly... brampton is relatively cheap, Milton is equal to brampton in price and has much appreciated value in the home, all these areas have GO transit.
Personally Milton will be my choice if I have to make that decision. ( Property taxes are very less in milton compareed to brampton)
Etobicoke is good from commute perspective but houses are old and I don't know about area wise how good is that.
apart from queensway towards south till lake might be better but as you approach near the lake price starts climbing
Yeah and that s precisely the reason why I initiated this thread - to learn of the better options .... I recently learned that Whitby had some good schools and not so expensive housing but I need substantial Indian community around as well I must say ................
Then some one suggested Pickering as being closer to Toronto .....
But then again - the local public transport in Mississauga / Brampton sucks so if I was to stay in Milton and reach an office in say Dixie / Matheson , would it be straight and convenient , I wonder .... what would be the public transit route I would take from Milton to Dixie / Matheson in Mississauga and how much would be average commute time one way ?

Fido.
I guess drive on to 401 and exit at dixie, may be 20 km one way or less.
Hmm .. thats not bad ... will keep Milton too on my places to look at list ....

I recommending buying a home as close to the workplace as possible. I made the mistake of buying in Brampton 5 years back, while my workplace was West Mississauga (almost Oakville Border) and had to commute 90 kms everyday, part of it on the horrendous 410, which added 200 bucks/month to my gas bill and an extra 60 minutes to my daily commute.
With gas prices slated to get more expensive and gridlock worsening as the GTA population expands, you should think about minimizing your daily commute. Think of it this way, if you are spending $200 every month extra on gas, that is equivalent to an additional $100K in mortgage. One might as well upgrade to an area which is more expensive, but which obviates the cmmute cost and time.
I have looked extensively at Milton and although I agree that the prices are lower than Mississauga, it is "too quiet" for me and the commute does not justify the purchase, in my case
