Just wanted to know from the people who are currently using recliner sofa set (2 or 3 piece sofa , love seat , wedge etc) . (not the single rocker or recliner)
Is the usage extensive ?

sometimes we buy the fancy thing and realise we never use it for years. I observed many kitchen items occupying shelves, clothes, duvet, table lamps etc falling in that category.
We are tempted to buy one for living room but thinking will it be another bought but never used one?
Also one which we saw and liked is with the Wedge (300 $ extra for it ) , will this wedge be ever used ?

I would suggest not to buy recliner and stick with traditional. Its just for initial few days that you will use reclining feature, after sometime you would feel its a nuisance. I bought recliner one and can say that from mine experience.

My 2 cents with above example: You cant compare it with house, as its hard to move from bigger house(Detached) to smaller one (Semi) as you get used to it but its easy to move from recliner to traditional one.

ok let me elaborate more why we liked and got into reclining ... one it will be placed where TV is , two- during current use of traditional sofa we realised that after sitting upright for some time we tend to either lay further down or lift our feet up to relax and put it on center table. We are trying to facilitate that pose of our :-). But qn is - is recliner a good answer for that?

Recline or not recline has become an issue in the house... LoL

If you have enough space, go for recliner. I have recliner in my family room where I have setup home theater and i have traditional sofa set in living room.

I am always missing recliner whenever I am sitting on traditional sofa set.

We have a 3 seater (with 2 recliners) and a single seater recliner in our family room. The reclining feature is used very extensively. Infact in 3 years, the recliner seat is almost 2 inches below the middle seat :) due to extensive use

Typical usage times - when using a laptop, watching movies / TV or just relaxing

I wouldn't buy anything based on this article.

The first red flag is "He is partnering with La-Z-Boy" :D. Nice. No vested interest there.

Then I read his reasons for why recliners are better for the back and from a scientific perspective, they're all wishy washy. He has provided no research to back them up either.

Recliners are probably more comfortable, especially while watching TV and stuff, but to peddle them as "good for health" sounds bogus. If anything, I'd think sitting in a half reclined position watching TV for long hours is bad for your back.
