Please discuss here ... I'll be interested to know as well.
Last year, I bought custom made Window Seat with Matress. I am happy with the result. Again sardarji on Advanced Blvd in Brampton - I have to dig in for the name.

Fido,
You also need to consider whether you would moving this furniture when you move. I furnished all 4 bedrooms in my home with furnitures bought from a Desi store in Dundas area. Got a real good deal but the service was pathetic ( 10 times), furnitures got delivered in pieces, delivered in multiple attempts, did not fix all items as promised, I heard it is the same case with few friends too.
I am doubtful I could move these furnitures. If you are buying from non-reputed store, be prepared for the sub-standard service, otherwise it is OK.
Cheers.

Thanks for the posts and suggestions TK , G13 & Sumjo . I will visit the stores mentioned this weekend . I am looking for a sturdy wood platform bed (and a good futon mattress ... any ideas where can I shop for a good one) - I have found that a harder bed gives me more comfort .
Plus a wood dining set of 4 chairs and a table . It appears that with the onset of pressed wood , natural wood furniture's availability is scarce ....... looking forward to more suggestion / advice . Thanks .

You are missing one point, what they show is not the actual piece that will be delivered, it is just a model. Until the actual piece is delivered, you will not know what you are going to get.
I did the calculation when I went ahead to buy the furniture whether to pay $10,000 to $12,000 from reputed stores or $3500 to $4000 from a non-reputed one, I chose the later as I was a new home owner under budget pressure then. I took the hit.

Keep away from this furniture store (Noble Furniture) in the Mississauga Flea market, at the intersection of Mavis/Dundas.
The owner is a sardarji, sold a coffee table to a frind of mine, (said its new, but it was refurbished), the table broke within 7 days, and when my friend went to complain, the owner flatly refused to compensate, saying that the item was not bought from his store. The table was bought for $120, paid in cash, no receipt.

I donot think that your friend has a right to complain.
We desi's are always bent upon getting the best value for our money that we forget common sense. Small businesses are not Walmarts. They have very limited power.
your friend should have checked the coffee table for weight worthiness / scratches etc.. before buying.
And when your friend bought for $120 in cash, he saved around $15 on taxes..
That was risk one takes to buy from a cheap (or should I say inexpensive) store.
I have bought from Desi's but have taken care that all furniture is sturdy etc... before I commit.
Peace

HelloG , Maharaj & JRF ,
Thanks for your suggestions . Something I love about this site is that with so many helping people , one finds soultions to most of the problems - esp for desis in Canada .
I will visit these stores and add my update as well . I am not sure whether I would move this furniture or not (if I move later ) but at the same time am looking for good basic wood furniture which should be comfortable .... most of the times though pressed wood furniture is cheap , it lacks comfort ...Does anyone know if Ikea sells only pressed wood furniture or natural wood as well ?
What the point of earning if you can't have a proper night's sleep
Any more phone numbers or contacts are welcome please .
Also any particular stores selling pine / oak beds , similar to pine futon material - simple wood boards ?

Fido.
I dont blame anyone who wants a bargain and goes to the desi shops but I would never buy my furniture from desis. I am willing to pay double and get peace of mind.
I have seen more than several instances when desi furniture stores fleece their customers.
well, he has the right to complain, if he is treated like s**t by someone. He didnt expect the owner to take back the stuff, or refund the money. What he wanted was help in fixing the table, so that at least he can use it for sometime, which the owner flatly refused.
As regards to buying cheap furniture, we all know what a new immigrant goes through in Canada during the initial years, being forced to cut corners, etc...........
