I appreciate TK's opinion, but we have been using Ikea beds and mattress for over 2 years - no problems so far. Just stay clear of the slatted plattens and go for a solid base. Also the SULTAN mattress come in a variety of hardness (stiffness if you prefer to say) and they are actually very good. Remember, most of Ikea (mattress) products are gauranteed for 5/10 years. From your earlier posts, I recollect that you do not like spring mattress and IKEA is one of few who give you alternate products, with sufficient life and affordable.
IMO, IKEA provides reasonable products at affordable prices which are easily movable - a very important feature for new immigrants. Solid woods and very strong furniture need the services of an experience craftsman to install them in place and also during dismantling/moving.
Finally, I like IKEA for giving me options which are NOT MADE in CHINA..
Just my 2 cents.
Hiren
Hiren, your point is noted.
As you said, if Fido can find a Solid base to rest his matress, it would be good. I also remember from his previous posts that he did not like spring coil hard board base for his back but in my experience, IKEA's matress was a total failure. Probably, some costly version may be good.
IKEA furniture looks nice, but the quality is very poor. I personally did not buy any Sofa's but all my friend's sofa's have sagged in 6 months...
IKEA is famous for" assemble it yourself" furniture but dismantling it and reassembling it can be a night mare, if you miss the instructions book. So always keep the instruction book/ spanners/ allen key in a safe place.
Hope this helps
Peace

Thanks Hiren & TK ,
Though most of the furniture at IKEA was pressed wood , but some were solid wood also .
I have found 02 US based websites selling oak platform beds as per the following links . Can someone advise if I will have to pay comission if I buy through them .

Learnt recently that in terms of hardness
Mahagony - Oak - Maple - Pine (Pine being soft others being hard wood )

As an update to this thread for new readers . please check out Dundas Road from Cawathra to beyond Dixie ... towards Fleetwood ........... there are good number of stores on either side of Dixie on Dundas . We brought a solid hard wood bedroom set from Green Furniture .. a Chinese store and 2 hard wood Futons from the Bedroom and Futon shop on Dundas ..............
You can check out Brick / Ashley / Bad Boy (not sure abt Leons but they must be smwhere around) at these places ............. we came very close to buying a sofa set from Ashley (who offered us the same price as given by some corner stores ) ..... till we checked out the futons ........ we found them to be just what we wanted , sturdy , firm , solid wood - great pieces of furniture which can double up as guest beds in case of need ........ but would recommend the better ones .
Don't be shy to bargain ........... you can always come back to the same store !
