At the time of accident did u ask the cop why u were chosen at fault..
I am amazed the cop found u at fault..

Accident when both sides of traffic are taking Left turn are the hardest to judge.. I think the cop choosing u at fault without a 3rd party witness must have been ur greatest benefit of doubt..

Thank you for the comments, they are like icing on the cake.

As mentioned in the very first line, the charge was related to left turn violation and not jumping red light.
Called insurance company...they did not already raise the rates because if the case is pending it does not show up in driving history so no increase in premium because of ticket.
I gained following:
1) Saved fine
2) Maintained clean driving record otherwise 3 points are already high. This is biggest gain.
3) The premium will not go up because there is no fine, no points.
4) Able to share the experience that would potentially help other drivers. Many a times very safe drivers get tickets due to various unavoidable circumstances. I would say they sometime make small mistake instead of committing actual offence such as speeding or intentionally jumping lights, DUI, etc. If studied right it could maintain clean record and could save money from insurance companies.

One more q - there was a collision , a cop ticketed you .. case went to court and the charge withdrawn .... No increase in premium as there is no conviction .

BUT what happens to the claim made by either party with Insurance company for damages ?? How do the insurance company determine who is at fault and in which party's history shall reflect 'at-fault' collision ?

Other driver was not taking a left turn, he was coming straight. Did not ask officer why I was only ticket as:
1) Already cofnused/worried because of accident..
2) Was not sure if other one got ticket or not.

sometimes, it is really difficult to determine who is at fault in case of collision and to clear some mis conception this http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/regs/english/elaws_regs_900668_e.htm would be a good read.

Very good question Fido. The insurance company already put me at fault (accident was in Feb ticket got withdrawn in Dec). From billing department they confirmed about no raise in premium because no ticket/points but to change the status on claim she directed me to talk to claims advisor..I left couple of messages for her. Hard to get hold of her..she did not even talk to me when the repair was getting done. But insurance works differently. So lets see how it goes.

I've been through this. If he/she is hard to get a hold of after a few tries, go straight for the supervisor. Tell them you to handle your case directly because their direct report is being unprofessional.

Your insurance premium should not go up since it was not your fault. How the insurance company pays for this should be none of your concerns. Ultimately, where the payment comes from depends on who you ask. The insurance co. will say they will "absorb" the cost. However on our next renewal, you and I will see the distributed increase, despite the car getting an year older and no offences. This is their definition of "absorbing" the cost.
