Hi,
Is it possible to exchange INR to get CAD/USD in Toronto?
We have some INR from our recent trip to India and would like to exchange that for CAD/USD, if possible.
As per the Indian Government you cannot export more than Rs 5000 and that too in certain denominations only
Hopefully you don't have more than that. The best place to exchange I'd guess is any Indian bank like SBI or ICICI

Thanks SS. I checked with ICICI and they don't accept INR. I have yet to check if can deposit INR in a NRO account from here but is there any other way you/anybody else can suggest?
Thanks,
If you checked with ICICI and they said "no', I doubt if SBI or ICICI will accept an INR deposit here for an NRO a/c. The issue the bank has, what will they do with the INR in this country.
Another way out is if someone is going to India, they can buy it off you.

Thanks SS. I will explore other options.
Passengers normally resident in India can carry up to Rs. 7500 to India. http://www.cbec.gov.in/travellers.htm
Since Indian Rupees is a closed currency, you cannot exchange it outside India.

I had also brought INR from my trip to India and got it exchanged for CAD from Bendix Foreign Exchange in Downtown Toronto without any issues.
