- My mother is on visitor visa and came to Canada in June on 6 month visitor visa stay.
-It was successfully extended 1 time to March 2012
- My question is instead of extending visitor visa again, can she apply for Super VISA while she is here? If yes, what's the process?
I'm no immigration lawyer or an expert in those matters, but I have had a number of people contact me over the last year in this exact situation, where they are already in Canada, have either renewed their 6 month visitor visa once or more or were intending to do so and when they went to immigration, they were encouraged to apply for the super visa instead of renewing for another 6 months.
So, while the original information about the super visa application made it sound like you couldn't apply from within Canada, that can't be true. Applications are accepted from within Canada.
My clients contacted me because they needed to buy a health insurance policy (minimum $100,000 for 365 days, from a Canadian company, etc.

If parents and grandparents are already in Canada and their visa will be expiring soon, what should they do? Will they be eligible to renew their status from in Canada?

An application for a new single- or multi-entry visa must be done from outside Canada at a visa office.
However, parents and grandparents who are in Canada on an authorized stay of up to six months may apply for an extension of their status of up to two years by submitting an application to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta, as long as they meet all the criteria for the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa. These applications will be examined on a case-by-case basis.
