When I say customs, I mean declaration at Canadian Port of entry. When you land first time, you can bring whatever you want. But do remember to deposit gold in a Bank Locker as soon as you land. Indian population is in hit list of robbers for Gold.
At Indian Airport, I think you don't need to declare it. As long as you are taking Gold within Law of Indian govt. they cant question you.
