Just note one thing........as per strict rules, you are reequired to give a list of the jewellary items with photographs, and also approximate value of each item.

I had not written the value and had to do it there in the office - the officer did not accept my list without valuation for each article.

Many thanks for the info.

By the way, is gold considered as an asset for creditworthiness?

Regards, Margo

Gold is considered as asset for 'net worth' only and not for 'credit worthiness'.

Here in Canada you can have thousands of dollars in bank deposit and other assets, but if you have not taken a loan or credit line or a credit card and paid back the balance or your debts in time you are percieved as a credit risk or a person with no credit history. It is not what you 'own' that counts but the intention of paying what you 'owe' (your debts) in time that counts toward creditworthyness.

Thanks for clarifying. The concept of creditworthiness is quite different in North America compared to India and the Gulf and something we will need to learn.

As I had written - strictly speaking. That is what is clearly written in one document that they send to you with your final approval. I still have that album with me - and I had to bring in two sets as I thought one they will keep with them.

Infact, I had to ask my relations in India to take out my jewellary from the lockers, take phootgraphs and send them to me.

CDs, I need your frank advice on this:

Since one seldom gets a chance to wear gold jewellery to work or parties in Canada, would it be a good idea to bring one's ornaments there just as an asset? How does one safely store it? Would it be easy and profitable to resell it if one is in need of funds? I know it is difficult due to sentimental attachment, but would it make good sense to sell it in India and carry/reinvest the proceeds?

I would appreciate your views on the above.

Regards, Margo
