Just wanted to share my experience with fellow Canadiandeseez..
My microwave stopped working August this year. We had bought it for 119 + tax some 2.5 years ago so decided to toss it out (repairs are usually costly). Last minute I thought of checking the warranty plans...
Manufacturer had 2 years of warranty. Found out that I had bought it on my Amex card.
Decided to call Amex, they usually cover an additional year. They asked for a quote to be repaired.
Called the Amex recommended repair company, they said they only provide quotes via service calls at home. Charges 50+tax
Checked with Amex, they said they will cover the service call, but need written estimate of repair.
Service guy came in, gave a quote of 125 + tax. Also charged 50 + tax for service call.
Sent service call receipts + estimate to Amex, original Microwave receipt, Amex statement, buyers manual warranty page, via scan / email.
Amex refunded 119 + tax (original price I paid for microwave) and 50 + tax (cost for service call) as the cost of repair was more than the price paid.
It was all hassle free..Amex refunded 192$ for a 135$ appliance.

No trees were killed by this post, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.
