Hi,
I hope that I am posting my question on the correct section.
I am an Indian Citizen on a Work Permit. I and my spouse are covered under OHIP(Ontario). I also have Standard Life Insurance from my Employer.
We are expecting a kid in the time while I am waiting on my work permit renewal. My OHIP will be expired in that time waiting for work permit renewal.
My question is to understand if I should be expecting non claimable major expenses on my pocket?
I understand that Standard Life Insurance coverage should have answer to this question. But I ask this to hear if anyone has gone through similar experience and what it is like?
Thank You,
Mukesh N.

You only need the work permit copy to renew the OHIP. I understand its only 10 days process to get your WP renewed which was my case. Visa stamping will take 4-5 weeks but just by getting the WP done you can get the OHIP extended.
I am not sure if I explained my question correctly.
I wanted to understand that if there are any medical expenses between my old OHIP expiry and renewal of OHIP, if and how are the expenses covered by OHIP?
I called the OHIP Customer Service and I was told that as long as the gap is less than 90 days, I can claim my expenses from OHIP once I receive renewed OHIP.
Although, when asked for policy document or written confirmation, I was not given that.
This is news to me that you can claim the money back from OHIP which is in a way its good though. On the other side, paying first for the delivery out of the pocket is definitely a pain and not a small amount at all for sure.
Like I mentioned work permit extension shouldnt take that long,
goodluck!
